I speak about firearms simply because most threads that don't involve firearms or killing stuff end after about a page or 2 I tried to bring up some other topics that are of importance for short , medium and long term survival but the the gun threads shot them down lol We talk about all the skills needed to survive but one of the biggest skills we all will need is personal discipline without that then it wont matter what preps you have made it wont help you Being able to maintain your own personal discipline and not give into temptation for thing like having more food then you need instead of saving some for tomorrow or using a firearm when there was no need it was just the easy way of dealing with a problem. All these things come down to personal discipline and self control without it nothing is going to help you Do you find this valuable? |

"Hey if your a skilled gun slinger you can make quite the living. Maybe even learn to be a good gambler and you could be say a Wyatt Earp, or Doc Holiday type. Life might be a day by day proposition, and being hired muscle is a way to make a living. The expendable merc."i wonder if mercs think of themselves as expendable? Do you find this valuable? |

"Being able to maintain your own personal discipline and not give into temptation for thing like having more food then you need instead of saving some for tomorrow or using a firearm when there was no need it was just the easy way of dealing with a problem."Food discipline is multifaceted. Today's world has so little self control when it comes to food. Many people are overeating. Restaurants are full of folks that are too lazy to cook. It is'nt just about having a stock pile. Come Zpoc rationing will become serious work. Lack of refrigeration or preservation might lead to the rational choice of eating extra today and let it go to waist, lest the food go to waste. Conservation of resources needs self discipline through the application of well thought hierarchies of need. Do you find this valuable? |

"brilliant point sullivan, to add on to this making your survival dependant on a finite resource such as ammunition will only delay the inevitable. You will run out of bullets eventually. I made my current bow by hand and the split cedar arrows as well. I can easily fabricate replacements for my equipment when I run out and create a new bow string with natural cordage. I can also simply carve a new bow. "I have to disagree. I feel like TR's main point is less anti-gun sentiment and more of an issue of focus. So much of this website is about what guns are better and less about being able to feed yourself. That's the issue. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

We've got a terrible tendency of focusing on the "nails." 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I have to agree. What's the point of being heavily armed if you haven't prepared with the basics by storing food, water and survival gear ? Plan4Zombies.com takes a balanced approach to <a href="http://www.plan4zombies.com> zombie survival</a>. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

heh restos are my personal bane Zee-Man lol I do enjoy a good meal and a few things that I love I could never manage to make myself sigh :'( but your completely right lack of self control will be one of the hugest concerns if society collapses. I just can't flip a pancake to save my life it is sad.... ( lol one of my fav breakfasts) Interestingly enough I actually learned something from national geographic channel on preserving eggs, aparently they are rapidly perishable because we make them so. I am currently testing what I saw for myself it seemed interesting. Aparently if you cover an egg in mineral oil it will survive for several months in a cool dry space. I cannot attest to the accuracy of this information for a few months lol I'm testing it and testing other oils . It was on a show called doomsday preppers it seems our washing eggs removes the natural perservative layer provided by hens. I guess thats why eggs don't spoil when sitting under a hen. LOL it just occured to me we could simply ask what timber meant rather than assuming lol he is alive and active on the site afterall lol ** facepalm ** sorry for assuming timber Do you find this valuable? |

Hey, I love talking guns. Own a gun or two myself and have fallen into concentrating preps on firepower alone. I'm not being preachy or saying I'm better because this isn't where my prepping begins and ends. However if that's as far as your knowledge goes your plans would have to fall into the raider catigory. If that's all we talk about and that is what's learned in many of our member's short time here I think we've succeded in the defense part of our name and failed in the survival department. I've talked to guys who barely show up on the site anymore and ask why they aren't posting on the threads anymore and many are just burnt out on guns and have become frustrated when the threads they start that have nothing to do with guns barely make a page while some newb starts a thread called "whut kind of gunz do I need for zombies?" and it goes over big. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Perhaps we need to reorganize our front door? I detect that very few folks are looking at the wiki pages. You can see this in many ways, the most obvious is the "Location: Null" that leads so many threads. The navigation window is overlooked and ignored. Which is a shame because the site's writers have done a tremendous job of having it be organized. It is so well organized that it sometimes easier to find and old thread using that nav than to run a search. So why does it get overlooked? I believe it is because of 2 things: 1) Many folks are prone to use a graphical interface. 2) That update button is oh so easy for keeping up with current conversation. And conversation is what is desired most. Why the repeating fire of gun talk? Is it just because everyone loves fully automatics (get it, repeating fire)? For this I think the reson is that all the gun pages are rather low in the nav window hierarchy. A revisit to the home page may be in order. Have you noticed, since Maricely got the new Ultimate Noob Guide linked from the home page our teen audience has gotten more level headed? Lets get the Weapons and Gear pages moved up to top level in the nav window, and make our home page more oriented for the graphical interface users. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
