BOB (72 Hour Pack)

In order to survive you will need to have your BOB with you at all times pre-ZDay. This is not feesible in many cases of everyday life, however in circumstances where you do need to drop your BOB off the following rules must apply:
a) Always know your BOB's exact location
b) Always leave your BOB in a safe & secure place (avoiding possibility of damage & theft)
c) Never Ever be more than 1km from your BOB in order that you may be back in possesion of it within 10 minutes of the SHTF.
Obviously a fair portion of your time Pre ZDay will be spent at your BIL or BOV and so they fit nicely as places to stash your BOB.

Your BOB is absolutely essential, it is a tool with two purposes 1) an aid to Buging In 2) an aid to Bugging Out. - it works in close harmony with your BOV, and should your BOV fail then your BOB is your last resort.

Any thoughts on these principles?

Yep. In real life, and especially for us adults, "Rule C" isn't going to fly. Many adults work more than a 1 klick away from home. My girlfriend works 15 minutes away, and it's quite a bit further than 1km. I do think, however, that people who work some distance away should pack a small "GHB" (Get-Home Bag) to help them make it back to their BOB and family. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Good thoughts! These can be mediated through redundant systems. An E4 kit about the size of a fanny pack lets you get away from the BOB for better range of motion. An EDC pocket kit even lets you put the E4 kit down.

One might like to upscale on the redundancy also. You've mentioned the BOV (or UEV as some of us call it). In that you might have some pretty serious supplies. I would hate to have to leave my supplies bag behind. Hence, I have plans to make a collapsible travois to pack in the UEV. Should I have to go on foot, then it will enable taking a heavier / bulkier load with me.

I agree, home is a good bit aways for most people. I just have the emergency kits in both vehicles. Then again I am not to worried about bugging for a while after the event.

So I have to ask: What do you think of this guy's BOB. Granted it's really happening for him, but I'd be curious to find out what you thought of it?

I'm still in the process of building my BOB (I haven't obtained all the items I want yet), but what I do have is in a bag in my car. about 90% of the time I am within' running distance of my car. In my area, the only real time someone breaks into a car is to steal laptops, so I'm no more worried than if someone was to break into my home.

I travel almost every weekend to visit my parents (my mother doesn't get around easily) and I feel much more comfortable having my bag with me (what I have so far anyways).
