Bullpup Kits

I've been researching bullpup kits. There are AK, Mini 14/30 (?), Ruger 10/22, Marlin 60/70 22s, Saiga shotgun, and SKS (my favorite). And others I'm sure.Shernic Gun Works (SGWorks) makes what I think is the best SKS kit and also the cheapest at $200. But it takes 6mth and have heard it can take up to 15mth to receive. You can get a after market duckbill less mag adapter for it that run about $90. Center Balance Systems (CBRPS) makes about four SKS models running from about $250-275 and takes about 1-2mth to receive. They also make AK kits and others. It comes (some models) with a duckbill less mag adapter so you don't have to worry about them clumsy Tapco SKS duckbill mags. You trim or buy them trimmed to fit. HiTech builds a strong looking drop in kit but is the plainest of the bunch. Now they are proud of their kit which runs at $675 but takes about 2-4wk to receive. I was wondering if anyone would like this on their AK, Mini14, SKS or such. I like the lighter weight and real compactness of the concept. The SGWorks kit brings the SKS from over 40" to just a hair over 30". Now thats M4 sized for you with a 20" barrel to boot. Just think what it can do for a AK. If I do it I might cut the barrel down to 16", add mag adapter, refex sight, muzzle brake. and laser/light combo. It will become my patrol/scout rifle Even if left with stock barrel and mag. You can with practice load this beast quick enough to be effective and have the bonus of extra ammo with the same weight and space magazines take up. Please keep this polite and constructive. And thanks now for any and all comments. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Have you seen the one for the mossberg? It's pretty cool. As for the rest of them, I could see how much fun it could be to have one, but I won't pay another several hundred dollars for that. My priorities are lying more in the direction of ammo stockpiling right now. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Thats my problem too. Another gun, ammo, and gear are needed more than the kit. But it is so tempting.SGWorks and CBRPS have YouTube vids of them. No haven't seen the Mossberg kit yet. That's all I need is more kits to drool over and get me side tract more. lol But thanks for the heads up. Might just look for it at work when I get a min or two to waste. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Aww, sweet. I like that duckbill-less adapter too. How much do the pre-modified magazines cost?

Dammit....I was completely content with my firearms....The mossberg set up is pretty sweet. Don't know if I'd switch up my ak though, I got it to where I like it. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bKcr6zuIIM(not getting RickRoll'd) That is freaking sweet. None of that "rocking" the magazine in crap, just straight insertion. Believe it or not, being required to carefully rock the magazine into place is a lot of the reason I've not gone with Tapco 20-rounders with my Yugo M59/66A1, because I can load the 10 round fixed magazine more reliably with stripper clips. Edit: Maybe reliable isn't the right word.... I can reload more "positively" with stripper clips. I would do that to my SKS in a heartbeat. Wonder if I can swing the weight of the ZSDW to get us a discount code?? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Regular SKS Tapco 20rd mags run around $15-20. I used a friends Tapco duckbill once and hated it.I just got my droid and Ive been web searching at work like crazy. Found all of that by accident looking for another SKS stock not a Tapco. Love my Tapco but wanted exotic and bam stumbled onto this one after another. lol 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

LJ a discount would be sweet and if you need a certain number of guaranteed buyers I will sign up. I truly love this concept for my Chinese SKS.

One thing I've read about bullpup kits, at least the AK and SKS bullpups, is that the handguard gets hot. VERY HOT, to a point where gloves or a vertical grip is warranted. I don't have personal experience to base this on, just something to keep in mind.

My SKS already gets hot now as it is. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I bought a CBRPS Mosin bullpup stock about 2 years ago... $275, and I found it's more eye candy than practical. I dunno if their current design has changed, but the one I got while it makes the 91/30 shorter it adds 5 pounds to it's weight! I don't think anyone wants a 12.5 lb rifle! it looks cool, but its just not practical. waste of money. I don't even know what to do with it now... they also used alot of foam in the stock panels, looks pretty, but doesn't hold up well to use. a dirt & grime magnet. Do you find this valuable? |

"EDITWe all can always find better ways to spend money. It's a personal choice of what each person thinks is more important. People spend lots of money on so called tacti-cool all the time. If it helps them shoot and or accomplish their task better no matter if it's real or in their head. Then let them have fun with it. Now I haven't decided on it, but it is tempting. It will make a long and heavy gun a more manageable platform. And that makes it a more effective platform for a trunk/BOB gun. But hey to each his own. I don't know anyone with a Bullpup gun of any type/style. So haven't had a chance to really get to lay my mitts on one. The only other option is take a old Monte Carlo stock and modify it (majorly) into a Bullpup system. But I already have more work on my kids project guns to last me a year or two. EDIT: Spelling and changed some text and added some more. Do you find this valuable? |
