Suggestions?
May 27 2012, 8:04 AM EDT
Well, I live in Australia and am only a young girl, and, therefore, do not have any access to firearms. I do however, live near a police station, have multiple knives in the kitchen, enough golf-clubs to outfit everybody in a tournament, rolling pins, a longbow, two or three metal lunchboxes, and a cat. I was wondering, do any of you have any suggestions for any other household objects I can use as weapons? Please help, I really don't want to be caught defenceless in the Zompocalypse.

Ok i checked your profile now for the suggestions1. stay away from the police station every one is going to head there and end up dinner 2. what are your folks like in terms of disaster planning ( depending on what part of oz you live in they might be well prepared or not) 3.Do you have space to practice with the long bow if so you might want to get that down to pat if you need to use it 4. Take up a martial art I don't know of any parent that would not be happy to see their child doing some thing proactive like a martial arts for fun and fitness 5. get into gardening if you can unless you live in a flat then your out of luck. there are plenty of garden tools that can take down a zed if need be use your imagination Do you find this valuable? |

I would suggest not using the cat as a melee weapon. I know it is tempting, but no matter where on the tail you grab, you will never get a good swing. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Hell, if I want to kill someone with my cat, I pick it up and use it much as primitive cavemen used rocks- thrown, or gripped firmly in the hand and used as a bludgeon. For those that are worried, I am joking. Do you find this valuable? |

Like Renet has said, stay away from the police station, people will flock there in hope of getting their hands on firearms and other things, they'll probably end up getting shot.Join a martial art, there are plenty of them and there should be no shortage in your area. Practice with that long bow, join an archery club (If you haven't joined one already) and practice, practice, practice. Firearms can't be fully ruled out, maybe ask one of your parents if they would like to start target shooting with you. That way you can both get your firearms licenses and legally own firearms. (gotta love cricket bats) Do you find this valuable? |

I already do ballet, so that has given me some jumping powers, and I think if I kick hard enough, I could severely injure someone. But i'll see if I can find anything else useful. :D

"I already do ballet, so that has given me some jumping powers, and I think if I kick hard enough, I could severely injure someone. But i'll see if I can find anything else useful. :D"problem is the earlier you start using your limbs the more likely you going going to get injured or worse infected. avoid contact with the undead for as long as possible. golf clubs, crickets bats, bit of pipe. anything you can lift which is longer than an arms length. Cool, thanks! We got golf-clubs, and if Z-Day happens at school, all will be well because of our gym, which houses all sorts of sports equipment. Also, our school is having this medieval thingo when people come in and teach us stuff. There was this massive collection of armour and weapons in the house rooms last I checked...

@sl0-m0-ti0nThat's all well and good! Maybe put that kicking strength to good use and join a Muay Thai gym! In my opinion it's one of the better martial arts for self defense. @Tomdarocker You stress the point of having an object longer than arms length to attack with, yet you rule out a weapon that attacks from distances a lot longer than an arms reach? It may not be effective at taking down any more than one Zed and requires some decent training to do so, but it is an incredibly effective hunting tool, you can't argue with that, history proves it. One of the main advantages we would have against the living dead would be our ability to fight battles from a distance. The long bow can be a deadly weapon in the right hands, but much like every other weapon, it takes practice and time to become efficient with it. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Are crossbows legal in Oz? They're not as powerful aw a firearm, but they're easier to shoot stuff with, and can be used for hunting more easily (whenever I try and hunt with my friend's bow, any animal within a kilometer scarpers because the drawing action startles them. Not so with a crossbow.@sl0-m0-ti0n can you get hold of a machete or an axe? Is there one at your home? They make decent weapons, especially if you can pin the zombie, a la TR's pitchfork. If you insist on kicking someone, look into protection for your legs; shin pads are a good start, are fairly cheap, and mean that you're unlikely to smash your shin if you aim a kick wrong. Try looking into parkour/free running, a martial art such as kickboxing, muay thai, wu shu or krav maga, or try out a mixed matrial arts doctrine. All are great for making sure you can fight well, except for parkour, which is just generally useful (and fun). Do you find this valuable? |

Not so with a crossbow. My girlfriends dad was telling me that after you obtain your firearms license you can do a crossbow course, the course takes about a day or so and after that you can legally own crossbows. Agreeing with Alpha's choices in weaponry, axes and machete make good multipurpose melee weapons. I think that parkour could be particularly beneficial to you sl0-m0-ti0n, it's not a bad thing to run away from a fight, especially if your opponents are flesh eating zombies. You seem like you'd be relatively good at it too, considering your leg strength due to ballet. Do you find this valuable? |

It must vary from state to state all i have to do is apply to posses a crossbow at the police station if i get approved i can have as many as i want i don't have to do a course nor do you need a firearms license Do you find this valuable? |

The seconddepends on your proximity to home or another safe dwelling of your choice. Do you find this valuable? |

I guess if a group of you were firing arrows at the zombies i could see it doing a good job but i can't help worrying that I'll end up surrounded by zombies one day. in which case a bow would be pointless because of it's long reload time only shooting in one direction. I still prefer a nice pole to swing around until I can get out of there.and I definitely agree with parkour. can't go wrong with parkour Do you find this valuable? |

"Huh I just looked it up and it didn't say anything about the course, so I am not too sure what he was on about. I just presumed that'd be right because he has his crossbow license. Maybe they've changed since he got his? @Tomdarocker Yeah I wouldn't see it being effective in that situation. I'd try to keep clear of those situations all together. If you're stuck in an area surrounded by zeds I think you'd probably be using the bow too offensively. Like you stated, the bow has a slow rate of fire, so your tactics and strategies should develop around that fact if you were to choose a bow as your primary ranged weapon. I'll find a pair of shin guards, I also have a mouth guard [I play hockey] and I'll keep a lookout for things that could be used as weapons!

JUST A DANDY WAY TO MAKE A GOOD MEAL. Do you find this valuable? |

Practice running and/or running and hiding. Better, get some practice running with a backpack and your hockey stick and she'll be sweet._ Do you find this valuable? |
