Oh...and as an amusing side-note: Scopolamine containing plants (such as datura or the jimsonweed relative native to Haiti) are themselves associated with the 'zombie drug' or zombie powders used in Haitian witchcraft.

"I wouldn't rule out PCP, but to point towards LSD is usually the result of the news media tossing a label on a situation and not doing any research or follow-up. Obviously LSD freak outs do happen, but...they're different."Except the links do contain the report that the previous person to have this reaction tested positive for LSD when caught. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. "Except the links do contain the report that the previous person to have this reaction tested positive for LSD when caught."That's not too meaningful, on several levels. For one, in the link, the article claims that the medical report indicated that the suspect (in the other 'freak-out' case) took 3 stamps of LSD. A 'stamp' is not a meaningful unit of measurement, indicating that we are looking at a case a mixing of medical reports and anecdote. It ignores the potential significance of any other drugs being taken, and conveniently bypasses any other facts about the case in favor of the, "Look, it's that LSD again!" approach. Given the utter lack of any other information on the case, and given that the incident is still contrary to ~60 years of scientific observation of LSD in action, I'll suggest that we're looking at a case of post hoc ergo propter hoc... which is Latin for, "Oooh that will make a neat-o story, let's publish it and not bother with actual factuality." 3 out of 3 found this valuable. At least if it is in Florida that is about as far from me as it is possible regarding the states so I'm cool with it starting there haha. Even if the hospital shooting is in another hospital could still be zombies if two home less people have it there are probably more. This could be a worst case scenario brewing. But it most likely isn't a zombie but I still call that guy a zombie even if it wasn't contagious. He fits the bill. As for rarity of this incident I find it extremely odd that there were two of them and they were both naked. Could they be a military experiment that escaped? sorry cocaine psychosis does not seem legitimate to me since there were two of them.

"As more reports come in, it appears that this is going to turn out to be LSD related. They are saying that this is the fourth case in Miami over the last few months, although the first where they had to kill the suspect. Can you provide a medical reference indicating that LSD overdoses cause hyperthermia? Because I can't find a single one. The "exciteddelirium.org" site is down at present, this is from the Google cache of it: "Our colleagues in Miami-Dade County, Florida, first described the syndrome of excited delirium associated with cocaine abuse. The symptoms of excited delirium include bizarre and/or aggressive behavior, shouting, paranoia, panic, violence towards other people, unexpected physical strength, and hyperthermia. Throughout the United States and Canada, these cases are frequently associated with psychostimulant abuse, representing the extreme end of a psychiatric continuum of drug abuse effects. However, reports of acute exhaustive mania, physical restraint, Pepper Spray or TASER and sudden death also have been reported that are not related to abused drugs, suggesting further that an underlying central nervous system disorder was the precipitating cause of lethality. " My read of this suggests that the people who had the "breakdowns" happened to be on drugs at the time, but had a separate nervous system disorder. Perhaps the drugs enhanced an existing disorder? 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

LSD doesn't cause hyper- or hypothermia. It has no effect on the body at all (except making you salivate more). It's all a mind drug.

Has it struck anyone that we are hoping for a PCP overdose to become a zombie outbreak?Perhaps the potentially-apocalyptic nature of such a dramatic event is prompting some of us to suppose it is a Z-Day event... meanwhile, 2012 surges on. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Has it struck anyone that we are hoping for a PCP overdose to become a zombie outbreak? Its like this shirt i saw that said, "The hardest part of the zombie apocalypse, is pretending I'm not excited". thought that was awesome and summed it up, :)... On a side not, this Miami story was deemed a possible Zombie Attack on msn. I'm sure this is only to get more readers of course, but thought it was kind of funny and figured i would mention it. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Again I direct you to jimson weed tea.http://leahlefler.hubpages.com/hub/Real-Zombies-Haitian-Voodoo-and-a-Man-Named-Clairvius Jimson weed tea is the stuff Hatians used that started the whole voodoo zombie legends. Scroll down to the paragraph on the tea and the symptoms it causes. Very similar to how the naked face eater was acting. Its ol' Timber here folks, trying to make sense of all this and shed some light on a little known, very dangerous drug that might be growing in your backyard! 4 out of 4 found this valuable. "Again I direct you to jimson weed tea.You mean we can actually create our drea.... I mean nightmares, how horrible, :).... Ya, that stuff is pretty nuts, and like you said, a lot of the symptoms were very similar. Unfortunately the good old corporate media will not ever look into this far, nor will so many police forces. They are happy to claim its the good old drugs were hear about on a daily basis... 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

One report I read (read a lot, sorry I can't remember the source, likely BS anyway) claimed "bathsalts" as the cause of it. Who knows though2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

You probably read it here:http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2012/05/29/reports-miami-zombie-attacker-may-have-been-using-bath-salts/ "A naked man who chewed off the face of another man in what is being called a zombie-like attack may have been under the influence of "bath salts," a drug referred to as the new LSD, according to reports from CNN affiliates in Miami. Four other drug use instances in Miami-Dade bear resemblances to Saturday's attack, he told WPLG. "It causes them to go completely insane and become very violent" and take off their clothes, Augilar told WPLG. Dr. Paul Adams, an emergency room physician at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, told CNN affiliate WBFS that the drug makes users delirious. They exhibit elevated temperatures and extreme physical strength, Adams said. Adams said users have been known to use their jaws as weapons, according to WBFS." ... Maybe it really was just a drug effect? Anyways, it's best to keep an eye on the situation, you know, just in case. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Yeah I'm not particularly concerned about this. There are a multitude of drugs that could have caused this sort of behavior. Until I hear reports of the dead coming back to life or of mass hysteria i'm not concerned.
