Chlorine evaporates that’s why you have to keep replacing it, you may have quite a little water stockpile now ..... erm all be it a dog flavoured one. Pool chlorine is the same type that is used in water treatment and it has a longer shelf life than chlorine bleach. During the Rwanda Genocide a hotels swimming pool provided the drinking and cooking water for over a thousand people for the majority of the 100 days of the genocide. An average single family in ground pool has enough water for 4 – 5 people for a year. We waste quite a bit of water on our amusement.

It's my understanding that it isn't the chlorine that is the problem, rather it is the OTHER chemicals- stabilizers, etc. that mess with water drinkability. According to SurvivalMom dissolved solids can cause a laxative effect, and pool chlorine is frequently stabilized with cyanuric acid, a cyanide derivative. There are other issues, but those two are enough to deflect me from pool water.

Dissolved salts can be removed by evaporation techniques. Do you find this valuable? |

If I ever decide to install a pool at my BOL (which to cleverly hide a water source in plain sight might not be a bad idea), this might be something to look into. How do these differ from chlorine based pools in terms of the installation and plumbing and what not? Do you find this valuable? |
