"Does Dan Wesson still make revolvers? I know I should Google it, but I was just surprised to see the name again. I lusted after the 44 back in poverty stricken days. "
Yep, but part of cz-usa...

It does not appear they do.

I did the same search. Apparently they do make M1911s.

Dan Wesson is currently making only 1911s, but I believe I heard one of their sales reps say something about starting back into the revolver business.

That would be a big plus for revolver fans. The interchangeable barrels are cool, but the best feature of Dan Wessons was their accuracy. They dominated IHMSA competitions.

"The most important things to keep in mind, after many discussions with many people:

Shoot the gun before you buy it, if you can. Every single person is a little different, from the size and strength of their hand, wrist, arm, etc., and each person can handle the recoil/weight of a gun differently.

Keep in mind the commonality and cost of ammunition; if 9mm does what you need it to, there's no reason to go with something bigger because it's 'cool.' Remember, bigger is often louder, which isn't usually a good thing in a survival scenario.

Ideally, from what I've gathered, my end goal is going to be: a 9mm pistol, because 9mm will kill, especially zombies, ammo is cheap, and common.

A shotgun, because nothing does what a shotgun does.

Lastly will be the rifle(s). Ideally, if you need a rifle to shoot it, you can probably avoid it. Not always, but more than half the time, theoretically.

I've got more thoughts on it, but I don't want to hijack your thread any more. As Bama said, trust the TR."
Ok after talking with my dad, he also agreed that a 9MM was good for me so will most likely get one. I'm considering the Taurus PT911 Semi Auto Handgun 9mm Luger. I would appreciate any info you guys can give me.

Check out the Taurus PT92 which is a improved version of the Beretta 92 in 9mm.
I own one and it hasn't giving any issues in over 20yrs.
It will also except Beretta 92 mags but Beretta won't except Taurus mags.

Buy an SKS with a hinge magazine. the stripper clips are way faster than normal magazines. this should be the main weapon of your party. the sks is as durable as the ak.

everyone should have a pistol. glocks are preferable, 9mm is what you want. 9mm with big mags.

one person in your party should have a shotgun. another person shuld have a crossbow

He is asking about pistols not rifles.
Glocks are good but my Taurus is cheaper and has had less issues than my Glock 17.

I was actually looking at that gun yesterday. Was trying to decide between that or the one I mentioned.

I will never sell mine. I've owned lots of guns and most wind up being resold for profit.
But my PT92 will never be sold.
Now back to revolvers.
Rossi (owned by Taurus) makes real good ones.
Everyone I know who owns one loves them.

The revolver I always wanted to own was a Colt Python. One of the finest .357s ever made.

Agreed, very nice guns. I loved mine, but IMHO it was more of a showpiece than anything.

Now, in regards to Taurus guns, I'd say they're fine. I'm admittedly a huge fan of S&W, but my experience with Taurus guns has shown them to be perfectly workable guns; nothin' at all wrong with 'em. They're not necessarily the best guns out there, but they do what they're supposed to, and they're better than a lot of people give 'em credit for.

I was so mad when my dad sold his, but he needed the money and got almost triple what he paid for it.

Speaking of S&W aren't a lot of Rossi pistol older S&W models. Rossi bought the rights and tooling/machinery from S&W

The Python had the smoothest action of any revolver I ever handled. You **** the hammer and it felt like silk. No argument from me that they were the best.

Most handguns are more accurate than the shooter can take advantage of.

Not bad advice, per se. But I have never been a fan of the AK. I'll stick with the AR. What it lacks in ability to withstand abuse I can make up for by not abusing it.

The 9mm is ok if you are not wanting a bigger caliber. I prefer the .45ACP in a 1911 pistol over 9mm in a Glock. Yeah, I have fewer rounds. But I can reload quick enough that it doesn't matter that much.

.357 revolver is, imho, an excellent choice. With a couple of speedloaders and some practice the limitation on number of rounds shouldn't betoo serious unless you face a big crowd. If you do, running was probably a smart move anyway.

Of all the guns in our house, my wife prefers my old Ruger Security Six for home defense when I am on the road. The first round is a shotshell and the next 5 are hollowpoints.

That is a plus of revolvers is that you can use specialty rounds such as shotshells.

And you don't have to worry about losing magazines. Combat is tough and ***** happens. Fumble a magazine swap on the run could leave you with just one round in the chamber.

We can guess what that would be for...

i second that

My wife owns a Taurus PT99 and has put close to if not more than 6000 rounds through it at the range in competitions and practice shoots and it has never given her a problem plus it is surprisingly accurate i would go as far as to say its a touch more accurate then my M&P

I think a lot of people are just gun snobs and look down on the brand because its Brazilian and not European or American
