20. RE: Prison Scenario.

A combination of DN's plan and looking through the paper work because prisoners do not necessarily tell the truth and some are really good liars that could fool any kind of lie detector even voice stress which is supposed to be more accurate than your typical lie detector that we see in movies. Now the next question, do you really want to banish these people? You know, you run the risk of them forming up their own group like them and then you find yourself under siege. I am not sure if it is worth the risk when human existence is so fragile. It would be easier if they were all undead ... LOL Do you find this valuable? |

A tough situation to say the least. The prisoners were in prison for a reason. They couldn't live productively in normal society. But normal society no longer exists. I would call a meetinng with my group members and have a vote on the situation. The vote would be simple... 1.Turn them loose with the understanding that they cannot be allowed into our group. The prisoners would have to fend for themselves. 2. Kill the prisoners outright. They can't be trusted around us and turning them out would be too cruel. 3. Allow them to become probationary members...until they prove themselves trustworthy and reliable. Do you find this valuable? |

If you don't want the prisoners around you, why not just let them stay at the prison while you leave? Do you find this valuable? |

"To all of you who say they would make the prisoners leave and then abandon the prison: Why do both? If you don't want the prisoners around you, why not just let them stay at the prison while you leave?"Because there are two options - live in the prison or move on. In the scenario, the prison can't keep you going long enough to become self sufficient (2-3 years to turn a prison into a walled farm). Therefore, if you are going to move on, doing so with as much food as possible makes sense. Why sit around until you are hungery to move or leave with 5 days rations rather than 10? If you are going to leave with every gun, bullet, and can of beans - what is left for the prisoners to want to stay with? Let them out and they will rush you to survive. Leave them in the cells and you are killing them slowly and cruely - at least be a man and hang them first. Sending them out with a fighting chance (though slim) means that if you meet up again later they won't have a reason to want you dead - you gave them a fair shake. It also means that there are more living people in the world working down the zed through attrition alone. Do you find this valuable? |

"If you are going to leave with every gun, bullet, and can of beans - what is left for the prisoners to want to stay with?"A large fortified building? You don't have to let them all out. Just let one or two of them out, tie them up loosely, and leave the keys where they can see them. By the time they get loose you'll be long gone. Do you find this valuable? |

I'd find the ones that the group found the most likeable/useful and keep them (melee fighters/laborers) and kick the rest out. No supplies (hate to say it, but my friends kid is more important to us) for them, if they have weapons let them take them. Remaining prisoners are to be first line of defense for the community (probably 5 guys at most)Scavenge the local area to supplement your food supply. Meanwhile, remaining prisoners are to build rammed earth walls (moist earth packed tightly, then left to dry, then used as building blocks. To give an idea of usefulness the Great Wall of China was build in this method), walls would be inside the first fence, dirt would come from area outside of first fence to form a trench. I should know the local area because I was brave/stupid/smart enough of the area to try and take a federal prison which makes scavenging easier. Most of the group should be natives by nature of a zombie apocalypse. Do you find this valuable? |

I would lock them all in a courtyard for a night, and keep an eye on them. From this I could notice who the tempremental ones are, the voilent ones and the useful ones. And while I kept an eye on them, I would have someone check the prison for records and the such. I would not take them all, only 7 or 8 at the most, so if they do mutineer, our group could control them. With the prisoners we absorb in, I would personally get to know them and assess them all, the favourites would get a melee weapon like a bat and the rest would be given daily chores and s.h.i.t jobs for a while untill I feel I can trust them. The others would be released at various positions approximately 20 miles out from the prison in groups of 2 or 3 with minimal supplies and no weapons. They would get no more than a can of beans for a group. Sounds heartless but no one is more important than my group members, and I can not run the risk of giving them weapons and them fighting against us.
