Weapons you won't use
Jun 21 2012, 12:27 PM EDT
We talk a lot about what weapons we have, what weapons we want, ideal weapons for certain scenarios, etc. But are there any weapons you will not use? It can be because you're too scared to use it, don't know how to use it, or any other reason. For me, I will not use a flamethrower. Homemade ones built from super soakers just scream 'dee dee deee' to me. Even a professionally made ones intimidate me too much. I'd probably just destroy it to keep someone else from using it against me. I led a tour group through the US Capitol years ago for a children's burn victim group. It was heart breaking. I want nothing to do with heat based weapons. Second one is explosives. I wouldn't shy away from a grenade as I think it's operation is straight forward enough, but if I ever found stuff like c4, I think I'd just stash it away. I really don't want to blow myself up trying to figure out how to properly use it. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

To be honest... I would use nearly anything I happened by at least once. Unless it is inoperable, or poses an immediate threat to me if it fails. Aside from that, game on. haha1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

If I know how to use it, I'll use it. If I think I'm likely to hurt myself with it, I'll leave it alone.

Chemical weapons - if i came across a stockpile I would bury them in a deep mine shaft and seal the mine. They are to unpredictable. Winds could shift and it goes after you. Canada is helping to destory old Russian and American stockpiles so yeah we have a few tonnes kicking arround. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I'd probably avoid the flamethrowers of the home-made variety.....Not gonna lie; I do think the military grade flame throwers are pretty awesome, so long as you're not getting shot at. I'd probably shy away from the military ones too; the last thing I want is to burn down all of my resources and shelter (and possibly me). For the most part I'd avoid chemical stuff too; stuff like mustard gas is stupid easy to make (some people have probably made it on accident), but if you screw up you'll be it's victim, and stuff like that just seems like it's only purpose is killing large settlements of people (which I'd honestly rather avoid as I'm not a Nazi). "You can also use the C4 to cook with. "Just dont step on it when its lit. If I remember this right (something my nephew said from EOD school) heat plus pressure around explosives equals boom. I would stay away from stupid big guns. Desert Eagles, S&W 500, etc. I see no reason for those weapons unless ur hunting a bear or very big game. The only other thing I'd avoid is weapons with uncommon ammo for my area. There is no need for a 12.7 mm gun when 9 mm is so much easier to scavenge or buy. Mil spec flamethrowers I wouldnt mind but good luck finding one. They would be a good way to clear trenches (what they were made to do in the first place). 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

lol I would have fun with hot air ballon burners :D they shoot huge jets of flame and run off propane :D and are factory produced to a very high standardWeapon I wouldn't use: an iron cannon exposed to the elements, It is more likely to explode than shoot. Blow darts. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Most forms of knives, most guns (as I haven't used many). All forms of explosives and flame based weapons (bar Molotov's, but even these rarely)

If somehow I came across claymores I wouldn't use them. Sure I would take them, to trade or sell. They seem relatively easy to use but with my luck I would blow my face off with it. I'd rather get extra ammunition from bartering.
