My survival plan
Jun 29 2012, 12:52 AM EDT | Post edited: Jun 29 2012, 12:52 AM EDT
If i cant save the world ill prepare for its end!.
My survival plan is one of fortification i live in a small town in rural victoria and i have decided that when the original outbreak occurs i am going to fortify my property using temporary fencing reinforced with one foot deep holes then being concreted in (since no one will care if i take some concrete from the hardware) then using star pickets at an angle dug into the groung behind the fence and rested upon it making them like supports at the front of the fencing i will dig a ditch the full length of the fence exluding the driveways ill touch on that later in the ditch i will put metal rods so it will act as a type of trap in the case too many zombies fall in and they start crawling out on the near side i will attach razor wire or barbed wire if it easier to get on the driveways ill have reinforced gates and a spike guard like that used in war that can be moved to allow my reinforced convoy to enter and exit on missions to collect foopd and water out of the local water tower or the local lake both drnkable although lake water will be boiled and puryfied the old fashion way if need be i am going to reinforce the house with sandbags and steel on the windows using the dirt out of the pits and there is a fabrics shop close by so i can get course material and make bags easy to do this is my survival plan if all this fails i am gogin to hightail it and keep moving place to place until i reach the dubbo raaf base there will be a safe zone there so they say please feel free to add anything and comment that you think should be in there thank you

The plan you outlined would take weeks, if not months, to complete. If you start at the outbreak, you may be partially completed when Zed comes shambling by.

Also, when the SHTF, everyone will be scrambling to scavenge.

One of the things you will hear often here is "If you don't have it when the SHTF, don't count on having it".

If I can’t save the world ill prepare for its end!

I live in a small town and my plan involves converting temporary fencing into a permanent structure through the use of concrete. I will dig holes and put the fence in said holes. I do not have this concrete on hand so I will steal it from the hardware store. I will dig a ditch and fortify it with barbed wire which I have not sourced. My defences will have a gate so people can come and go to get food and water.

I will reinforce my house using sand bags filled with dirt made by myself because I plan on raiding a fabric store nearby. I will also be using scraps of steel which I will of course raid for. When this plan fails I will make a run for some type of military base.

I think that’s what he said.

Now the critique, you won’t be able to convert temp fencing to permanent due to the structure of the fence itself it would mean burring the fence to waist height as a the concrete footings required to support such a fence is 3-4 feet. Temporary fencing is shorter than true permanent security fencing. You do not have enough raw materials to do this. Where will you get this construction temp fencing? You will not be able to raid for it as everyone and their brother will have thought of this. As there is no material on temp fences blow the chain-link digging holes will not do you’ll have to dig a channel and fill it with cement.

You will not be able to raid sufficient cement from a hardware store as most contractors ORDER cement and pick it up. The skid of cement on hand will provide enough cement for a cube a little larger than the pile. Bagged cement tends to go bad in moist conditions so large amounts of the correct type are not usually kept on hand.

Raiding a fabric store is a new one I’ll admit it but don’t count on theft. In this case the owner may still be around and may kill you or others will get the same idea as you. Going to a military base or any variation of said is a horrible idea. I would abandon this entire line of thought.

Only use materials and tools that you have easy access to or actually own yourself.

Thank you for the translation Shadow!

I'll give you points for planning on raiding a fabric store! +1, I've actually never heard that before! :P Do you know how to hand sew?
Although I will have to deduct points for most of the other parts of your plan.

Like Shadow stated, only use materials and tools that you have easy access to or actually own. Raiding is risky business, especially if it is early after SHTF. The business owners could possibly still be defending their stores, plus their will be other people will similar plans to you and will be heading in the same direction.

Start prepping this stuff now, so you don't have to risk your life over a couple of bags of concrete, barbed wire and some fabric.
