Scavenging by State
Jul 16 2012, 2:30 PM EDT
Yea yea, another firearms thread. Feel free to add your state, or add to what's posted below. The general idea being what you see below, is what would most likely be left over from police. Here is a list I was able to put together so far. This is not all encompassing and I didn't account for specialized units (SWAT, ESU, K-9, etc.). Here is a broad look at what I found so far. It doesn't seem like I'll be coming across too much 7.62x39, and there is a lot more .40S&W and .357 sig than I was expecting. Alaska- Glock 22 in .40 S&W, Remington 870, AR-15 Colorado- S&W M&P in .40 S&W. All Troopers are issued a shotgun and have the option to carry a department owned or personally owned M-14 or a AR-15. Connecticut- Sig Sauer P229 .40 S&W Florida- Glock 37 in .45 G.A.P. Georgia- Glock 37 in .45 G.A.P. Idaho- Glock 21 (45 ACP). Detectives are issued the Glock 30. Each Trooper is issued a Colt M-4 Indiana- Glock 17 9mm and Remington 870 Louisiana- Glock 22 in .40 S&W Previously, the standard issue sidearm was the SIG Sauer P220 semi-automatic pistol in caliber .45 ACP. Remington 870 Maryland- Beretta PX4 Storm chambered in 40 S&W, Remington 870, Colt AR-15 Montana- Sig P229 in 357 Sig, Remington 870, Colt AR-15 New Mexico- Smith and Wesson MP .357 Sig New York- Glock 37 in .45 GAP Pennsylvania- Glock 37 .45 GAP, Remington 870, South Carolina- Glock 37 in .45 G.A.P. Tennessee- Glock 31 in .357 Sig Virginia- Sig Sauer P229 .357 Sig, Remington 870, and a Colt M4 Carbine patrol rifle Washington- Smith & Wesson M&P in 40 S&W, Remington 870 *Note* This is from wikipedia so it may be incorrect. If it is, please feel free to correct it. Do you find this valuable?

"Jesse - why not add the tactical? Won't they be out working during z-apoc?"oh I'M SORRY! Was my first post too lazy for you!?!?! :D Just kidding. I was just trying to keep it moderately basic....plus it's what I found on wikipedia without digging too far in. Some places like DC have the Secret Service, FBI, and lots of other fun 3 letters. I didn't want to list out every possible weapon/caliber available. At least in my opinion, happening upon a state troopers sidearm is a bit more likely than coming across a p-90 from some specialty unit. Do you find this valuable? |

You did fine. I would leave it to the people from each state to sort out the details. I would think aside from Secret Service/FBI/CIA, if they're in the regular police force, they're going to be out on the frontlines early. While training will be advantageous, being out on the front lines early on, is equally disadvantageous. I wouldn't be surprised if weapons from some SWAT teams and the such were left out. They'd be fewer of them than the average police weapons, but it's not beyond the realm of reason that they'd be out there. Do you find this valuable? |

The small suburban Saint Louis municipality, in Missouri, we're moving into issues Glock 22. Pretty well standard for most of STL County. Garda, the armored car company I worked for, issues Taurus and S&W 4" .38 special revolvers, of different finish and option. For instance, my buddy FJ was issued a standard Taurus 4", but I got the lucky hand and received a like-new S&W 67.

North Carolina (State Troopers - counties and cities issue on their own):Smith & Wesson M&P357 in .357 Sig as the standard issue sidearm (replacing the .40 Beretta 96), and the Smith & Wesson M&P15 (AR variant) as the standard patrol rifle. Do you find this valuable? |

I live in the UK so for me it's like a taser and some pepper spray that to be honest doesn't really work because our government thinks criminals should be treated nicely. On the other hand our armed response units (which we have quite a number of surprisingly) have some quite tasty weapons: Glock 9mm, Custom MP5 or a G36 and an Arctic Warfare Super Magnum (that beast sniper rifle) with the lovely .338 lapuya round.

Psh. I don't think I've even seen .45 GAP in stores around here. Wal-Mart even has .357 SIG, but no GAP.

"Psh. I don't think I've even seen .45 GAP in stores around here. Wal-Mart even has .357 SIG, but no GAP."Yeah but .357 SIG is not cheap either. I would get a conversion for my P229 and blow about 250 for that and then spend lots on ammo but why? For that money I can get an ECWS bag and more .40 caliber. Exotic is not always practical. Calgary Police ServiceA Glock 22 .40 S&W is issued to every officer. A Wilson Combatized Remington 870 (loaded with slugs) is in every vehicle. 120 street officers are issued semi auto only Diemaco C8s (Canuck M4s) for range and penetration over the sluggers. Tac (SWAT) I believe uses C8s exclusively as well, apart from breachers and sierras (snipers\marksmen) I assume breachers/shotgunners use 870s as well and marksmen use Rem 700s (Again, an assumption) If I find I need corrections I will edit my post. But I figure you'd know more about police in your Province. There are the highway patrol (Sheriffs) and the jackboots (RCMP) Sheriffs use the same as the CPS I believe, RCMP use 9mm S&W (which the damn model always escapes me!!) Pretty much every police service that carries carries Glock .40s. Oh, you forgot the Nuclear Security, Want!! Good thing I know....Glock .40s (Model 22) and C8 carbines. Do you find this valuable? |
