Springfield XD vz Glock
Jul 18 2012, 12:43 AM EDT
Iv come to fork in the road my next gun is going to be a pistol and Im stuck between a Springfield XD and a Glock. Iv shot a glock before and found it very comfortable but Iv heard a lot of good things about the XD so I was hoping to hear from people who own BOTH on witch is a better gun since I havent shot a XD. If it matters I'm going with a 9mm with ether one simple because of price of ammo and abundance.

Haven't owned both, but I've got experience with both. The XD has a more comfortable grip angle to me, the compact Glocks are the only ones that I feel have a comfortable grip compared to the XD. The regular XD has a really long trigger reset compared to the Glock, which has a shorter reset. The XDM is a bit closer to the Glock in terms of trigger reset. The bore axis on the XD is a little higher, which means it will have a little more muzzle flip than the Glock when you shoot it. Glock tends to have more accessories if that influences your decision any. Though I do think the older XDs will accept SIG style night sights. You might look at the S&W M&P as well. It's got a grip with the same angle as an XD, but a low bore axis like a Glock. The Walther PPQ seems like it's worth mentioning as well; though I don't know much about it aside from having a great trigger. Do you find this valuable? |

I ended up going with a compact Glock. I liked the massive number of accessories that you can get for it, and I find the compact ones to be reasonably ergonomic.

I own and carry both.I love the simplicity of the Glock, and that you can put it through Hell and it comes out smelling like roses. The Springfield XD/XDm lines took the Glock concept and made it their own. They are great guns as well. Honestly, just pick one and roll with it. Glocks have a STRONG following with so many customizable parts. Lone Wolf recently released frames to match their slides that will work with any Glock parts. XD/XDm's, on the other hand, are not as mainstream yet. They are wonderful, but some people do not like the Glock trigger and favor the pull of the XD/XDm since they would rather not mess around with paying for a trigger job. It's all about what you want out of the gun. Do you find this valuable? |

Springfield XD or XDm, never owned a Glock but I have shot more of them than I care to count, have never been impressed, hate the trigger pull. The Springfield is everything the glock isn't, same concept but done much better as Unassigned stated they took the design and made it their own, they hit it out of the park. Don't get me wrong a Glock will do the job, they are just not my thing 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

IMO, they're too similar to really make or break a deal one way or the other. ODB also suggests a good alternative - the Walther PPQ and P99 are also viable choices as well. I've got a little range time (like 2 mags) with a P99 QA and there are few handguns that'll rock and roll like it does. I wanted one for the longest after shooting it. And there's also the FNP handguns as well. That didn't help, did it...? Do you find this valuable? |

@Slow: Trigger ain't the best but I think it's better than many out there. Also, can you buy replacement parts to change the trigger pull on an XD do you know? Most civvie glocks come with 3.5 lb pulls, most LE/Mil have 5.5 lb pulls, unless you're NYPD, in which case they're 8 lb pulls.@OP: I own a Glock, never fired an XD (Everytime I see that I think of this ":-D" face!!) but I'm going to the range tonight so I'll see if I can rent one (I can, but I might have to buy "range ammo" which costs 3x as much) and I'll let you know which I like best. I like my Glock, but I honestly think my 1911 is replacing it as my fav, even though I love them equally....haha. Do you find this valuable? |

OP: Sorry, nothing to add, couldn't use my own ammo tonight, I'll try again some other time. Do you find this valuable? |

Another good pistol is the Beretta Storm. Lower bore axis than Glock and has less recoil impulsr. Just another option in the synthetic style. All steel my fav is Taurus 92 Do you find this valuable? |

I don't own both in 9mm both I do own a 9mm XDm and a Glock in .40. One of the advantages the XDm 9mm has is 19+1 they're both polymer but the mags are definitely cheaper for a Glock I saw you had mentioned the price of the mags. I can't really accurately comment on reliability of both I've only owned the XD for about a year or so. The Glock has been with me since 2000 and has never let me down. Are you looking for a DAO or does it matter? Another good reliable 9mm is P226

Price is one of the reasons I never purchased one.....yet. ;) Do you find this valuable? |

Price ine of the reasons I never purchased one.....yet. ;)"I don't think the OP specified whether budget was an issue or not...if that is the case then I would like to change my answer to neither and suggest a Sig P226, I have seen mags for them go for as little as $23 ea up to $75 ea, so while some are experience sive you can find them cheaper and the $23 US manufactured ones I bought work as good as the factory mags.
