40. RE: What Is The Point of Survivalism For You?

For me survival is about having a chance to help other people once the **** has hit the fan. It's not only my job but also a life choice that I love. If I am prepared for when something happens then that means I can focus more on helping other people survive without having to worry about "Where can I find this and where can I find that?" instead I can go "It is in my bag already so I don't need to worry about finding one". It's also a really fun way to learn new skill, people and help others learn survival skills, just don't mention zombies otherwise they'll just laugh. In short, it gives you reassurance that you will have a fighting chance at surviving whatever comes your way and you will be calm and collected because you have the necessary skills and equipment to survive. Unlike most of the population who will only start preparing and gathering things as soon as the panic sets in and their only survival plan is to wait for someone else to come get them. My attitude towards survival and preparedness is definitely an extension of my childhood lifestyle.Grew up as a Ridge Runner in the Twin Tiers region of New York and northern Pennsylvania. We had a cellar full of home canned food from our own garden and orchards. My father brought in a lot of venison over the years, and we raised our own chickens, turkeys, pigs, beef cattle and honey bees. We would trade some of our produce for maple syrup from the neighbors. Easy to forget how hard that life was now, 30 years later. This old Boy Scout is determined to be prepared, and to protect my family, my loved ones,. and my community as a whole. THat, and I live to learn.

Definitely a chance to learn new skills, i was never really brought up with the idea of preparing for survival but i suddenly realised that i would have no clue on what to do. I think it presents an interesting challenge which is fun to debate what you'd do in that situation and how.

I love spending time outdoors and being self sufficient . It's just a natural aspect of my personality. I believe a real man needs to be strong and self sufficient so he can care for those he loves/ protects . It's hard to protect others when you can't protect yourself .

To protect myself, and those I care about in case there is a disaster of any size or type. Everything else is just gravy for my biscuits.
