Shotgun Nomination Thread 2012.

Hola everyone! The time has come again for the annual ZSDW Weapon Election! On this thread, you can nominate the shotgun you think is the best choice for when the SHTF.

A few rules:
1. You must provide reasons as to why you think so. Simply saying "Because I said so" isn't good enough.
2. The shotgun must be reasonable available to the public.Let's try to keep prices under 2K.
3. For any weapon with a large number of variants, they will all be grouped as a series on the ballot. E.G. instead of "Mossberg 500" and "Mossberg 535" being two different choices, they'd both be included in the Mossberg 500 series.

IMPORTANT! If you have any questions, I ask that you read the Election page first. PM me with any further questions. Thanks in advance, and happy nominating!

Voting will commence on August 16th.

For my nomination, I pick the Remington 1100. I've fallen in love with the gun. It's very reliable, and one'a the softest-shooting shotguns I've ever seen. It can be a bit bulky at times, but overall the reasonable price and good features make it a favorite of mine.

Nominated so far:
Remington 1100 series
Remington 870 series
Kel-Tec KSG
Mossberg 500 series
Benelli Nova
Winchester 1300
Ithaca Model 37
Benelli M3
Browning BPS
Winchester Model 12

Remington 870- most common shotgun in America, many aftermarket parts, most common caliber (12 gauge), crazy reliable. Do you find this valuable?

I'm gonna go with one of my own, my kel tec KSG. Short barrel, 12 round cap, medium weight, 12 gauge (of course), pretty reliable, and it just looks badass. Do you find this valuable?

The Mossberg 590/500 series. Anyone can afford one, it's got a better extractor than the 870 (it can be repaired or replaced without having to be sent to the factory), it's plenty tough and reliable, it's common, and the 590 series is capable of utilizing a bayonet. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Benelli Nova 12 ga.

Smooth as silk pump action shotgun that stands up to all kinds of weather. It's not a secret that it's the shotgun most waterfowl hunters prefer due to its ability to resist the elements.

Even the tactical model will accept 3 1/2" shells. So a Benelli pump will shoot any shell with 12 ga. stamped on it.

A mag cutoff button on the underside of the fore-end activates a shell stop allowing a chambered shell to be removed without releasing rounds from the magazine tube. A bonus feature IMO. Shuck out a slug and replace with a birdshot or buckshot round without a hitch.

The tactical model comes with a ghost ring sight and is priced right IMO. You'll feel the difference between a Benelli and a Remington or a Mossberg the first time you pick it up and rack the slide. A Benelli is a quaility built shotgun. Remington's quaility control has went downhill over the last couple years.

I'd still go for a used or old remington 870...i'm avoiding they're newly made ones.

If I were to vote I would have to say the Remington 870. It is the most common in the USA, fires any 12 gauge round you can shove in the tube, and it is pretty easily modified with aftermarket parts. Also it is very reasonably priced as far as boomsticks go. A very close second is the mossy 500. I own one and I love it too but the only reason I choose the 870 over it is because many military and police departments use them so it is easy to find parts.
I believe an honorable mention should go to the new Remington 887 nitromag. Mostly because it shoots 3.5 inch shells and has the new armorlokt coating that makes it tough as nails.

Edit: I own all three that I mentioned and all three are great guns that serve several purposes.

Ive been rocking a Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag for a while now. It can take any size 12 ga. except slugs. It only has minimal sighting posts, but there are two of them which i find helps me get on target better. My vote goes to this gun because it is versatile, reliable, and simple. Mossberg 590 A1 SP or Blackwater, 8+1, will eat anything you feed it, double wall barrel will handle fletchets, specialty rounds of all kinds, ghost rings for quick target acquisition, rails for accessories Do you find this valuable?

IIRC, isn't it 15 with 2 3/4" shells, and 13 with 3"?

Can't forget the one in the chamber XD

Oh, and then it's a crapload if you're using Aguila minis.

Remington 870 hands down, I own two of them. One is just a standard 870 that I have had since I was 13. The other is a Supermag Waterfowl version.

1. Common and damn sturdy, takes a special kind of person to F#uck up a pump shotgun.
2. Comes in different gauges so they have made them to fit just about everybody.
3. Jack of all trades shotgun comes into many different varations from hunting to tactical.
4. Anybody can save up and buy a basic 870 for pretty cheap. You can add one to your inventory quickly.

Yup seen those Nova's in action, watched my brothers go to hell in a handbasket quite a few times. Now my Legacy is a different beast, that is just a pheasant killer.

Its been said and explained so many times, it almost seems like a waste of hand energy. Remington 870. Its common, reliable, shoots 12 gauge. Lots of different ways to pimp it out. Mine has a flashlight, a od green 1 point nylon sling and a sleeve on the butt that holds 8 shells extra ammo. Do you find this valuable?

Agg, remington 870 fanwagon here... I'm feeling outnumbered over here in the mossberg 500 corner.

Anyways, my nomination will go to the Winchester 1300. Sure it may be a discontinued model, but it is one sleek gun. My grandfather and I have easily put through almost a thousand shells and haven't had a single malfunction.

Smooth, accurate, and overall one of my favorite lines of shotguns.
