Basicly it is the ability to survive in any situation.Survival is key.It is defense, food, water, shelter, ect.due to prepping I know I can easily survive if it is needed.Survival is also important to introduce to family, friends, and nieghbors to help insure you all can survive in any accident or apocalyptic event! 2  out of 2 found this valuable. What is it to me? To not be that guy that gets eaten, or the guy that avoids getting eaten only to die from hunger, exposure or thirst.

To be they guy that keeps my family alive , strong and moving on with life.

Self-preservation and the will to live are some the most basic instincts. All but the lowest forms of life possess it.

A philosophical as the question is it's kind of moot. Everyone here has decided to survive simply by breathing.

Considering that I've made the decision ahead of time NOT to be a victim in any circumstances, survivalism to me is the choice to go on with my life... and anyone who would say or do otherwise in an attempt to interfere with my plans will have one hell of a wake up call.

I feel that our society has become too comfortable with allowing the victims to become a number, whereas the criminals become "projects" to either fix or discard to the system. I refuse to become a statistic, and will do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of myself and my family.

Survivalism, simply put, is living when most others would give up.

I read a paraphrase of a quote somewhere that said something like "People think survivalists are pessimists, expecting the world to fall apart. But, I believe survivalists are the ultimate optimists. They believe that in the face of Armageddon, with the world dying around them, that they can keep on living, keep on fighting. If they didn't believe that, there wouldn't be much reason to prepare in the first place."

That pretty much sums it up for me. It's a state of mind, a will to "rock on" in the face of any obstacle silly enough to throw itself in your path.

Throw in a smidgeon of rebellion against the lack of control I have over my life in the current world situation.
