Ideal base of operations "B.O.O." where to go and what would you do?

After watching tons of zombie movies I think establishing a base of operations is important for survival, where would you go and what would you do afterwards? 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

Well if I was going to try to create a large community for traiding and operating offensive actions against the infestation, I would use the Paper Mill I work at. The place could very easily be made into a stronghold. And it has its own power plant and water purification facilities, as well as a natural gas pumping station that they took offline a few years ago. It wouldnt be hard to bring back online with the right know how though. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Paper mill. good idea I live near one of those. I would go with the Wal-mart that's in Monticello. Roll down shutters, plenty of shopping carts to use for defense. there's a gas station a VERY short walk from the store.

I forgot to mention the mill has its own medical facility as well. It stays stocked with everything needed in a practical situation such as meds, bandages, surgery kits, life support systems. Its like a really tiny hospital ER. The mill also has enough diesel fuel at any given time to last a year or so. The supply would probably outlast the diesels usability.
And don't worry about the Wal-mart thing. As long as you recognize that is the wrong choice and why, its all good. We are here to educate people.

What about armories? I live 40 miles from one are they safe to go to? 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Nope! Your BOL should be somewhere fairly desolate, with a good supply of running fresh water, food (Animals and wild edibles.), natural resources and cover.

Now to be quite honest, you could just Bug-in until your supplies dry up. Could your home be fortified?

Just make sure you stay away from anywhere that lots of people are sure to go.

In any kind of disaster, of epic proportions, other people are your biggest threat. The more isolated you are, the better off you'll be. A zombie, well, you know his intentions, but what about human strangers who wander by? The more encounters you have, the greater the probability of a negative outcome. If that wasn't bad enough, think about friends, family, and aquantances that would throw you and yours under the bus to save their own skin. There are fewer people than I can count on one hand, to whom I'd trust my life, so if you can do better, you're a lucky SOB.
Become as self sufficient as you can, prepare as much as you can, and don't rely on raiding as a primary source of supplies. It would suck to survive the initial disaster only to get shot for looting a few days later.

learn bushcraft, tracking and about wild plants as a bare minimum. Learn to source what you need from the earth because comercial products would eventually run out. If you can't source from the wild what you need to survive or grow your own food you are toast. I would go where wild resources are plentiful, water is ample and the soil is of decent quality. 6  out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?

Thx 4 the welcome guys. I have been preparing for a while and my B.O.L.s r a bad idea. As for the bushcraft that sounds very interesting and growing my own food won't be a problem There's a farm about 5 miles from where I live very big and spacious. thx 4 the help. :)

I will head to the woods first. There is plenty of running water and wild game that I can catch.

If not ? Then to the ocean. I can snag a large boat and fish from the ocean.

I live 15miles from the woods. About 25 miles to the ocean.

I live in Cali btw ;)
