The problem with CO2 isn't only CO2, it is the water vapor feedback(seeing that water makes 70% of overall greenhouse effect). Any impact increased CO2 levels have on temperature, is further amplified by extra water vapor it produces.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenhouse_gas ehh, a bit offtopic... From what I'm seeing the CO2 we produce is massivly eclipsed by that produced by venting volcanoes, and decaying organic matter.

Water vapor condenses into clouds because the higher you get the colder it gets. Thus clouds are formed. And when they get full it rains Plus clouds help block the suns heating effect and cool the ground below them. Water vapor reflects/refracts the light. Good try though. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Water vapor really? It was my vague understanding that water vapour contributes to the greenhouse effect. Regarding clouds blocking the sun....well Venus has a very dense atmosphere, and it's surface doesn't see the sun at all, but it also suffers from a runaway greenhouse effect giving it some very hot, very extreme weather. P.S. It's a meteorologist we need here! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

ACR, do you know how air humidity affects the temperature?Anyhow, read this first(section 1 and 2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenhouse_gas It nicely explains how different gasses affect differently. http://www.skepticalscience.com/water-vapor-greenhouse-gas.htm This is from the skepticalscience page but i am sure your friend google will help you if you really want to learn about the topic... "It was my vague understanding that water vapour contributes to the greenhouse effect. If the whole earth was humid. But it's not even close. Now it can contribute regionally. As for Venus. Wouldn't being closer to the sun have more to do with it? Do you find this valuable? |

"Venus is hotter than mercury, which is the planet closest to the sun."Yes it is. But Venus has sulfuric acid clouds that bar the water vapor from reaching cool enough altitude to return to clouds and rain. Then with carbon dioxide the major component of the atmosphere it increases temps too. Venus also has almost a perfect circular orbit so thete is never a cool(er) season. Add that the distance is far enough from the sun to never have a cool location for the vapor to return to water. Unlike our planet that gets far enough from the sun to cool that vapor. Plus our atmosphere lets vapor rise to cool off and become liquid again. Humidity only happens in high moisture and temperature locations. Once it reaches cooler climates it will return to liquid form. And drier locations will absorb the humidity. To me this sounds lile just another form of the Global Warming doomsday BS. But that is my opinion. Do you find this valuable? |

"Yes it is.Well here's what some dude wrote on wikipedia... "By their percentage contribution to the greenhouse effect on Earth the four major gases are:[18][19] water vapor, 36–70% carbon dioxide, 9–26% methane, 4–9% ozone, 3–7% The major non-gas contributor to the Earth's greenhouse effect, clouds, also absorb and emit infrared radiation and thus have an effect on radiative properties of the atmosphere." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenhouse_effect Also, here's a seperate page on the runaway greenhouse effect. It mentions venus, I'm pleased to find :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runaway_greenhouse_effect Do you find this valuable? |

I hope global warming is true, 45 years of living in Michigan and I am sick of the snow. The last couple of years with little snow have been great.I took a couple of science classes during my time at Kellogg Community College, it may be possible for the oil to cause problems with the currents, but I would want to see data from actual testing from the currents and not just "models" and theory. I don't accept Wikipedia as a serious source, anyone can register and then go through and change anything or make pages on anything even if they don't know what they are talking about or shift the article to their belief. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. "Markthegenius post 49"They speculate that Venus had water. As the Sun heated up vapor was formed. But as the Sun continued to get hotter so did Venus. So the cooling area kept getting higher to the point, that the hydrogen escaped before it could reform as rain. With it's closeness and almost perfect orbit the water never got a chance to cool to rain. Then the sulfuric acid clouds formed from volcanic activity trapped the remaining water vapor. John Houghton also wrote a counter that Runaway Greenhouse Effect can't happen. With all the faked data and most are just speculation (IE wild guesses) I'm not to worried. Their repeated doomsday scares have repeatedly failed to happen. So with their record of being correct I think worrying is a huge waste of my energy and time. But that said. You prep for what you can survive and just except what will kill you no matter what you do. If this ever comes true there is NOTHING you can do to stop it. Okay you can convert everyone to renewable energy in the nations that will. But what you going to do about China and India? Plus all those other dirty fuel energy using growing economies. If they don't change then the world is still doomed. So now what? You going to invade and or bomb all those offending pollution spewing plants? That will lead to a nuclear exchange. Blackhorse, now, i would not want to discriminate you or anything but you always give your opinion first, check the facts second. That is not good. It isn't that I am any better as an OP of this thread but ahwell...I just had more than enough of these debates, and it is always the same pattern. Give your opinion-check facts-misunderstand facts-check facts again-negate facts-say that it isnt anthropogenic-I can't do anything about that so I dont care http://www.skepticalscience.com/climate-change-little-ice-age-medieval-warm-period.htm This is a very nice page Do you find this valuable? |

"Agreed. Same goes with all doomsday disasters I think. Cosmic gamma rays, huge solar flares, super volcanoes, runaway greenhouse effect, ice age, meteorite collision etc. all pose a threat which we normal people can do pretty much fudge all about. This is why I have a box with drugs in it for The End Of The World Party. Do you find this valuable? |

"Blackhorse, now, i would not want to discriminate you or anything but you always give your opinion first, check the facts second. That is not good. It isn't that I am any better as an OP of this thread but ahwell...For one yes I give my opinion based on the facts I know. You tell me to check wiki on greenhouse effect. I'm also told about Venus is a good example. I check both and find conflicting data. I then recheck as I'm able to. I find more contradiction with previous data. So I post some conflicting data to my own posts. Instead of ignoring or pretending I didn't find it. I posted it. And I get this. Well this taught me that it's best to be dishonest to make my point. To never admit bad data. But your real issue isn't my knowledge or data. Your issue is I disagree. If you want a scientific discussion, find a science site. You posted a scare thread on a discussion site. And this site also has opinions. But again. If this is real, what do you plan on doing besides die. A runaway greenhouse effect as you have mentioned is a dead world. Your original OP was about stopping the currents. And I told you why it wasn't feasible. The oil and chemical amounts isn't enough to cover the whole Atlantic Ocean. And it's supposed to be on the ocean floor. How does that exactly effect the mixing of waters. It can't because it is on the ocean floor with the mixing above it. Do you find this valuable? |
