Which .45-70 in particular do you like?

My personal favorite is the Winchester 1894 .30-30.

Hard call.

I enjoy shooting Mosin-Nagants but to say it's my favorite rifle would be inaccurate. The triggers suck, the sights are crude and imprecise, and most aren't what anyone would call "precision" rifles. Accuracy is typically poor to moderate, with few rare exceptions. They can be improved but as they typically come when freshly cleaned of cosmoline, they're just a little too raw for my tastes. (But yes, I still love them.)

Part of my problem in picking a favorite is that I go through phases in which I am interested in different weapons. Sometimes its modern military rifles, others its hunting rifles. Others, I'm drooling over shotguns. But something I'm always interested in is old military surplus rifles. Of them, the M1 Garand is king. Sure, the SKS is close, but then you get into an argument not unlike those of the "AK vs AR" or "9mm vs .45" variety, often coming down to the same factors.

exuding shotguns sounds incredibly painful.

My favorite rifle, that I have shot, is the SKS. That I haven't shot, but based on aesthetics, would be the AK-47. If I were going to buy a rifle though, it would be a 10/22.

Speaking from Nostalgia I'd say my Ithaca .22. Nostalgia aside, I'd probably say it's my MAK90. I bought it bare bones and built a fine fighting rifle out of it.

Out of rifles I don't own, I'd probably say the SCAR16S/17S is on my "Do want" list. I haven't shot a SCAR yet, but I've spoken to scores of owners, and I've handled them in shops. It's probably one of the most impressive systems that's been released to the civilian market in recent years.

I have a thing for classic battle rifles as well, my personal favorites are the Para models of the FAL and the Scout variants of the M1A. The H&K 91 looks cool, and works well, but I hate the ergonomics......but looks wise, I like it.

my favorite rifle varies according to what I'm doing with it. I would pick any gun in my closet and call it my favorite. For hunting my 270 winchester, home defense goes to my knife as I have neigbors. The 45-70 is on my want list as is many surplus military relics. As of yesterday I actually have a favorite and it is on the top of the want list, no its not a AR or an AK even a Garand style weapon. Its a little Czech marval the VZ 58. honestly though (assuming the Zman headshot rule holds true) the best rifle for dispatching Zman??? I'd say the 10/22. No other allows to carry 3000 + rounds comfortably. Last I checked a squirrel was a lot faster and much smaller and I've zapped thousands in the brain box. Poachers have been jacking deer with it since it hit the shelf. A head shot to the brain box within 100 yard is a reality. Common sense says have something bigger with you incase you need to push the crowd back but honestly when or how will you replace that much more valuable round? 1  out of 1 found this valuable. With a better round, with superior ballistics, sorry the 10/22is not the best choice for dispatching zombies.

Welcome to the wiki btw

"

SCAR 17"
The more we talk about how awesome the 17 is, the more I'm tempted to save up for a long time and spend a fortune on .308 ammo lol.

I got to handle one a few weeks ago, without shooting it I already noticed that even with a 3x30 ACOG and a Harris bi-pod it still felt like it weighed less than some of my hunting rifles. I'm loving the brake they put on them too; I've seen trusted sources shoot them, and it really looks like the gun has almost no real recoil to speak of.

I've always had a thing for the FAL as far as battle rifles go, but I think the SCAR 17S would be my first pick if I wanted to spend a ton of cash on a .308 rifle.

In world retrospect, i love the AEK971. I hope its just like it is on Battlefield 3.

Now, in regards to what I've fired before, my favorite has to be the LR 308.
I liked that better than a standard AR15... plenty of power but in the character of an SR25.

This is very true, however if you are deep in the forest it can make a great food gun.
