Show and Tell: Kitted Out?
Sep 10 2012, 11:44 AM EDT | Post edited: Sep 10 2012, 11:44 AM EDT
On the latest Weapon Porn thread, Oldannyboy37 and Randomknife666 posted pictures of themselves kitted out for the zombie apocalypse, and I'm thinking that this would be a fun thread idea. In fact, their pictures are direct inspiration for this thread.

Rules are simple - post a picture or two of yourself in some of your chosen survival gear. Give a brief explanation of the gear you're wearing, what it's intended purpose is, and prepare to be praised or criticized. You can use the photo album below, or post the pictures to your profile and one of us with writer permissions will move it to the appropriate album.

And I'll start this one off with a picture I took before moving away from TX for a gear review that is still in progress. I plan to do a more updated picture if this thread takes off. Sidenote: my Facebook friends have probably already seen these.

Hidden in field:
http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/photos/album/204798/Kitted-Out+Badasses/photo/14038974/Find+LJ126!

The most obvious product I'm wearing is called a "Camo Cloak," which is currently being reviewed for the site. It could be likened to a poncho on steroids - it is thick, durable, totally waterproof and very comfortable. I don't want to go too far into an explanation on it as a review is pending, but it's a pretty neat product and about 90% positive. The pattern is True Timber MC2, a good all-around three season pattern. I am also wearing a camouflage veil to cover my face.

And to help you find me, I'm closer than you think. Probably about 30 yards away. And I could already have a rifle pointed at you, or not...

Maybe I'll wear a suit in my picture. I'll be the best dressed guy in the apocalypse.

Seriously though, I'll try to get a pic tonight or tomorrow night.

I have a couple of pictures on myself all "kitted out" lookin all "bad a$$" on my profile.

I like to put all my gear on and pack on all the weapons and ammo and just hang out in the house, watching tv or whatever. I use this time to practice loading and unloading...drawing and returning certain weapons...moving around in all this gear.

I guess its a good way to practice and get use to the extra weight...but its mostly just a way for me to kill time and amuse my mind.

Please try not to pull over the Ninja swat team look. Then have your wife dress up in something that offers no protection at all.

Matching bullseyes...is that some kind of insult? If it is...I dont play the insult game. So do your worst if thats how you need to be. I dont really give a crap what some self proclaimed sci fi nerd thinks of me or my woman.

All of that "ninja" outfit is real. The kevlar helmet, the ballistic dust and frag goggles, the nomex balaclava, the NATO tactical vest all the way down to the Magnum boots. I am no mall ninja son...so show some god damn respect.

As for the Katana. Its real as well...and I'm pretty fecking good with it. I train often and It is my perfered melee weapon. I regret the back carry but thats really the only place to carry a full sized sword if you want it to be out of your way. Carrying a sword at the hip is no good for CQB. I dont draw the sword from my back. The entire saya is removed from the holder and then the blade is drawn.

As for my wife...she just wanted to look hot for her pictures. She would not wear anything like that if the SHTF for real. The weapons are real and her skills with those weapons are just as real...reguardless of how she chose to dress for a few pictures.

In closing...I was under the impression that this thread was about looking kitted out and bad ass...not boring and practical. Hence the "kitted out Bad-Asses" not nerds wearing boring ass practical survival gear.

Hope this answers your questions...now quite being an insulting a-hole.

Well duter I would honestly place that bullseye on your heart, because you look like a mall ninja. Respect is given until it is no longer deserved, carrying a sword on your back screams mall ninja/confused swat officer. So if you don't like the criticism, I don't know what to tell you. The point of this thread was to show us what your going to wear in the event things go to hell. I think your outfit would reduce your chances of survival greatly in any enviroment which is not the point ..unless of course you go to a Halloween party. LJ's kit while simple works.

Nerds wearing boring survival gear tend to live longer, then idiots trying to look like something out of a Resident Evil game. You should know this since you spent some time in the Canadian Army in the distant past.......So sorry to pi$$ in your Cheerios but I think you have blown your chance make any sort of serious impression on anybody who has done more than play XBOX or watch Sci Fi movies. With that have a great day!!

So you dont like that my outfit is black? Would you have been happier if it were green? There is very little difference from what I am wearing in those pictures...and what I was issued in the military. Soldiers do just fine wearing very similar kit. Most troops head into the worst places on earth carrying a lot more wieght than I'm. Im not wearing body armour or a heavy rucksack...just guns and ammo...and a few basic survival items.

I've explained why I carry a Katana. I have also explained why it is carried on the back and how the weapon is actually employed. I don't like the back carry any more than you do...trust me. I wish there was another way to carry it...but no matter where I put it...it gets in the way of drawing guns or just moving around in tight quarters. So I adapted in order to carry the Katana unhindered. There is nothing "mall ninja" about that. Your basic mall ninja usually carrys a cheap sword and has no skills at all. None of my swords were cheap. They are battle ready and sharp as hell...and I do actually have some skill in their use.

I don't plan on using camaflage to hide out in the bush. Every part of my outfit has a use or purpose. I'm sorry you don;t like the fact that it is black and that I happen to carry a sword. I like black, everything I own is black...and I like swords. I don't like malls and I'm no fecking ninja. I don't play X-box...and I sure as hell don't like being called an idiot BY ANYONE! I do like Sci-fi movies...so there you go...we have something in common after all.

I always have a great day.

Jesse had the same idea as me, get my good Sunday suit out and strap a gun on lol.

I'm probably going to throw my gear over my every day wear, if I slip my gear on it will most likely be in a hurry anyways, so getting all camo'd up is kind of irrelevant in my case. I have BDUs and stuff, but truth be told where I'm at I don't really need them so much.

I'm going more for the comfortable yet functional look lol.

Jeans and a holster are what most people are going to end up with. I prefer my camo to be more outerwear type garments. Jackets, and bibs etc. Easy to get on and easy to take off. Or just a camo shirt and my field pants.

Same here actually. I'm actually waiting on a Battle belt and MOLLE adapter for my holster so I can have a quick on/off system for my dump pouch, pistol, magazines, flashlight, multitool, knife, and backup med kit.

I'm probably going to adjust my chest rig to ride higher so it's about the same height as most plate carriers so I can just carry my AK mags, main med pouch, and utility pouch on my torso with a hydration carrier worn in conjunction.
I decided with that set up so I could slip it on over whatver clothing I'm wearing (be shorts and a t'shirt or my Camo overalls and a thick winter coat.

I love wearing jeans but I most likely would wear my cargo pants due to how light and comfortable they are tee and a camo vest I designed and had made with an oversized hood Do you find this valuable?

I have thought about getting a plate carrier and the inserts with all the bells and whistles. However I do not want to spend the money for that right now. I would just prefer to work on my concealment and try to avoid contact then prepping to take a round in the ribcage.

I am currently working on my winter camo setup. I have the face mask, jacket, and gloves. I am going to get a set of bibs for Christmas (hopefully). That should do me pretty well for a good part of the year here. I am also trying to buy more of the Kryptek camo stuff for the rest of the year.
