It seems like many gun owners would prefer to *default* to shooting their way out of any adverse situation, whereas I would prefer (whether guns are involved or not) thinking my way out of the same situation. The two are indeed not mutually exclusive, but I think there is a tendency for firearms to significantly shorten the foresight of those who wield them, potentially resulting in shooting their way into a situation they can't shoot their way out of. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Mm I can see that but honestly if I buy a gun it would likely be for the same reason I buy knives. Coolness and the sheer joy of owning them. classic pattern 1911 Colt, Colt Python with dark wooden grips, Double-barreled 12g shotgun, Remington 870, Thompson M1A1. Gives me a thrill up my leg thinking of those pretty hardwoods. The clean lines. Do you find this valuable? |

"How may I ask, do you plan to defend yourself?"My mind. Of course I plan on getting a gun eventually but I fully intend to attempt to think my way out first...or try to avoid it to begin with. Do you find this valuable? |

"It seems like many gun owners would prefer to *default* to shooting their way out of any adverse situation, whereas I would prefer (whether guns are involved or not) thinking my way out of the same situation. There is a lot of truth to that. To clarify I do separate shooting out of a situation from shooting into a situation. If your in a situation it will likely be sneak out, shoot out, or negotiate. Generally I would prefer to sneak out but when that fails shooting out because negotiating is just to risky. But that is if your in a situation. Really if people do their due diligence in avoiding being in a situation then hopefully they won't need the gun but it is better to have and not need then need and not have. Unfortunately I think that some people have a tendency to get into a mentality of "have and must use" which is bad. Have and not use is good, need and not have is bad, have and must use is bad. "My mind.I've often said this as well. Anyone who has looked at my Wishlist Weapons page and seen all the hardware that I want to be carrying around might think that I expect to style myself as some Would-Be Rambo, charging with guns blazing into horde after horde of zeds, secure in the knowledge that I am untouchable because of all the baddassery that I'm toting around. This simply isn't so. A half a dozen guns is, to me at least, just a half a dozen options. It doesn't mean that any of them is the RIGHT option for the particular situation. I have no military or combat experience, and I can't even make up for the lack of it with all that elite Special Forces/Navy SeAL training that you get from playing Call of Duty (LOL) because I've never done that either, so I have no reason to think that I will be in any way qualified to inflict any Rambo-like carnage on the zeds that I encounter, hordes or otherwise. Furthermore, I will be traveling with my wife and four children, none of whom would be any better prepared to play Rambo than I, and in the name of keeping them safe (and myself to boot), I we will be doing my best to avoid combat altogether whenever and wherever it is feasible to do so. Keeping my family safe is FAR more important to me that starring in my own personal action movie, so I figure it is far better to think my way out of a problem, and better still to think my way into avoiding the problem in the first place, than it is to go charging into a fight that I'm just as likely to lose as the other guy. But maybe that's just me. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
