Knives

When choosing a good knife to keep on you remember that strenth is key you want a fixed blade knife with a full tang. I tend to like Bowie Knives and Ka-Bars. The Ka-Bar has been trusted by the USMC since WW2 and it is a terrific knife. perfect for most jobs and I bet could punture a skull if drivin with enough force. You would want to stay away from folding knives unless their a swiss army knife or a utility tool. there not good for killing but they make great tools. 6  out of 7 found this valuable. Do you?

agree on the Ka-bar great knife to have. Got one in my Bug out Bag. A folding knife though is nice to have though. you can keep it in your pocket, takes up no room at all and its always available to you easy to reach and use. though not much of a weapon its a great utilitarian tool. I did say that folder's are good tools I was just trying to point out your not going to do much killing with it. I wouldn't want to see anyone trying to pull of a kill that works with a big fix bladed knife with a folder. Glad you got a Ka-Bar in your bug out bag, I have yet to get mine, but hope to have it soon. Do you find this valuable?

I've got a Ka-Bar. It's sweet! Anyway, my favorite knife has to be this one bowie I have. It's called the paratrax bowie and you can get it from BUDK. It's nine inches, full tang, and 440 stainless steel (I know what you're thinking. But I've tested it. It'll cut through trees and still be shaving sharp.) The best part is that there is a compartment in the back that holds a three inch knife, which could be used as an absolute last resot. There's one point on the blade, midway down it, that is raised like a spike. The power you can put behind that is incredible! I'm definitely using that knife on Z-Day. Do you find this valuable?

Paratrax are sweet knives. Great hacker / chopper balance is good plus as a slasher it has a swoop towards the front of the blade that adds energy to any cut since the start main edge will be below target surface before the cut. Knife guys will know what I mean. The Cold Steel Vaquero has the same deal going on (one of these in my BoB. Do you find this valuable?

Combat Knives- Realistic use againt the skin jobs.
Sep 5 2008, 2:13 AM EDT
If you’re talking about “as a weapon”,. You’re gonna die. If a skin job is close enough for you to use a knife, they’re more than close enough to bite you and you’re DEAD. The only thing you MIGHT be able to do is trade their death-death for your own undeath- Or more pragmatically stick it in yourself and deny them the chance to recruit you… 0  out of 1 found this valuable. The Paratrax is more of a tool, good for chopping, fair for slashing, poor for thrusting.

I disagree. If a Z is close enough to bite you it will...if you let it. But the way to stop them is no different than the way they do it in the loony bin. 1 Place hand UNDERNEATH subject's chin with thumb side pointed down towards chest. In this position you have the ability to both push subject away and keep your hands away from subject's jaws. 2 Employ whatever means stop subject's behaviour. (stun gun, hypo) This can be adapted for use with Zs. Since they are no stronger than they would be normally the only thing different is stamina. Put a knife in a Zs head then push it away and pull out your knife. It is a lot better than a gun would be in this position. A rifle would be too long and a handgun while viable in a pinch could still result in fluid spatter. Any sort of firearm would alert more Zs to your position unless they're silenced which brings back the problem with length again. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Excellent point. After all, all those shards will get stuck in it’s head, causing even MORE damage.
Do not go kung-fu on a skin job’ you will loose. Each and every time. If you are close enough to “knife fight like a REAL MAN” (actual quote), then the skin job has already won and you are DEAD. All you can do now is go down fighting. But at that point, “it’s better to die trying,. Than to try dying” has gone out the window, and to be perfectly honest it’s your own damned fault. You’re the one who lett he fucker get that close to you, and you DESERVE to get bit.
This IS good Andy. Bad Andering would say a bit more, but y’all have been brow-beat enough.

Knives as a tool are valuable, as a weapon against Zed they are questionable. My preference in a knife match Torin316, full tang, fixed blade. I would add carbon steel blade and wood hilt. Going to Walmart and picking up a Old Hickory butcher knife would put you ahead of most of the survival knives on the market. Do you find this valuable?
