After searching for the past 2 years, I found somewhere here on the island where I can get my crossbow. I would like a little help here from you guys. I wanna buy a compound crossbow that is compact, affordable and packs a nice punch. I am hoping some of you guys can point me in the right direction so I know what to look for when I make the 2 hour trip to San Juan to buy it.

Using paracord, cut three equal lengths (from a foot and a half up to three feet long)
Tie a small bowline knot in the end of each piece of cord and when done thread the loose end through each loop until you have a triangle Pull each loose end through their loop until all three loops form a knot, and giving you the basic shape of the bola For weights, use cannonball style fishing weights that can weigh up to two pounds, or learn to tie a monkeyfist knot around heavy stones

So we no longer have to worry about viruses and other issues associated with Wetpaint.
I may volunteer to do this some time down the road - hence the reason for Long Term To Do. That is of course the community would let me. We can discuss the details when it becomes closer to reality. And if someone else volunteers, that is ok as well.

are smoke bombs legal. they seem very useful. only bad thing about it is you cant see.
are they as strong as im thinking or are they like kicking dirt in someones face. i have seen videos of people using them but cant tell if they would be effective since they used them outside and the wind blew it all away. you think they would have any effect on zeds

So I really am into wrist watches. I have about 3 of them and am not sure what my fascination is with them. Maybe because I'm a time freak and need to be on time everywhere I go. Anyway, are you planning on having something that keeps track of time during SHTF? What type of watch is it?
I have 3 different watches but am only taking one with me if I have to leave during unrest. It's a S&W Diver wrist watch with a compass attached to the side. It looks a little tacticool but this thing can take one hell of a beating.

So in a few threads I see lots of people taking classes, finishing semesters or graduating. What are you all planning on doing with those expensive pieces of paper (diplomas in case you didn't get my bad joke)??? Where do you see your career going next? Where do you want it to go next?
I'm finishing my PMP and 6Sigma black belt certification in the next few months. Until my own company is pulling in enough money to quit my current job...I'll continue doing the same kind of project mgmt consulting. The PMP and 6Sigma will help my marketability and get me on some more projects. As for it's impact on my doomsday planning...there isn't a whole lot to take away apart from things like strategic planning and resource allocation.

Let's have a little REAL TIME fun......
Situation: You have 1 minute (of REAL time) to gather whatever you can where you are RIGHT now and make a run for it. Set your timer for 1 minute. What do you grab? GO! Good luck, Survivor!

| Anchorage | Alaska. higher chance of survival than most states? | null | 7 | May 6 2013, 11:49 AM EDT by PedroAsani | ||||

Yes, why not?
Its most often pretty cold up there, and i'm pretty sure Zeds can't survive out there, they would just freeze their exposed internal organs to death, most have lakes with thin ice to drown those dead to death. Of course we would worry about the cold too, heat is needed, but if the military was to use some kind of EMP missle and fry anything that has a chip, well best not to go there besides the summer. There are less people in Alaska, population is about near 700,000 and this is a STATE, while other America states have about a population of over a million in just cities, this means less Undeads, and possibly more survivors. There are villages, Eskimos im pretty sure will do a better survival than other American Alaskians since they are hunters and hunters have their weapons. There are very small towns throughout Alaska Gun laws in Alaska are less stricter than most states i believe, correct me if i'm wrong, this means there are more gun owners and there will be more survivors. If I read correctly, you are allowed to carry a firearm without a permit. Of course Anchorage, population +300,000. Believe me, going to a city isn't survival, its going to your own death, but it is Alaska's largest city, SO which has got to mean that if everybody in Anchorage didn't have a chance, all of those +300,000 Zeds would be in that city, and the rest of Alaska would only have +300,000 Zeds, if you were to have a cabin in the middle of alaska away from cities, finding a Zed would be rare. Higher chance or not of survival, what do you think?

If all else fails of finding a weapon because you are very inexperienced survivor and happen to find a Harpoon gun because you think its a good weapon, why not?
If it was between Crossbow and Harpoon gun (Portable harpoon gun) of course wouldn't you have to pull back the cross bow every time? Gotta be pretty strong to do that. Unless i'm missing the big point here saying that "Harpoon guns can only be in underwater" Could it be used OUT of the water? Might be a pain to even take the harpoon out of the zombies, but i'm pretty sure their force is pretty powerful that it could either go through them slightly, or out of their body to a wall. So.... weapon or not? good or horrible, i'd like to hear what you would say. Just reminding that IF all else fails of finding a better weapon, such as a knife or firearms.

Noticed this a while back and it still seems like something that should be fixed.
You click 'Reference Materials' on the side bar, it brings up a page with a couple links. Back again in the side bar, you can click the show/hide contents arrow, and a completely different list of stuff comes up. Whole categories of stuff. I think I squared away the 'Mega Survival Database' category when I put my ammo info pages in there so that you can navigate to the pages included in 'M.S.D' without knowing that you need to navigate by using the arrows. When I added links to the home page of the category my things were in, I found out it's simply that you have link them yourself. I could do it, but would need permission to make these changes. Some of the stuff needs to be put into these lower categories, which I don't want to do. So ya, I think those need to be gone through. Maybe we also need to add a page to instruct writing what they need to do if they add a page (add a link to it from the landing page). Let me know if I failed to clearly say what I'm thinking. I'm not incredibly technical with website/forums stoof.

How much mags do you carry in a SHTF scenario?
For my AR I have a USGI mag with a Israeli spring coupler and a "butt" cuff pouch. My chest rig has 8 mags and for "speed" reloads and breaking OODA loops I have 2 speed reloads on my battle belt, and 1 weak hand reload. For pistol mag 1 in the gun, 2 strong hand reloads and 2 "weak" hand reloads.

epically now a days with people going crazy in schools and bombing its a discussion need. I don't mine like a axe and a .38 in there backpack either. what i bring to school with me is my pocket survival knife, a mini key chain flashlight, my aluminum 20 0z water bottle( always filled and in my bag), a wear my para cord bracelet/watch, and a bandana in my back pocket. Some of my friends think it much or weird but i think each one off these things can help in many life or death situations. I also think every person should always carry some or all of these things either in school at work or just hanging out. Do you agree?

copied from Ozarks Area Survivalist list, best low budget plan I have seen, not perfect, but what is.
Set aside $10 a week to buy the specific items each week. You will have a kitty set aside that you put the $10 in and you can't touch it for any reason but to buy the food storage item for that week. Put in the remaining change back into the kitty. Some things in the beginning are going to be cheap and then later will be more expensive. In order to pay for the expensive stuff later you need to keep the leftover money in the kitty. Weeks 38 and 44 you will have "off" to replenish the kitty. Week 1: 2 cans tuna fish, 2 boxes salt Week 2: 5 boxes of Macaroni and Cheese 4 cans tomato soup Week 3: 3 cans mushroom soup, 1 2.5 lb peanut butter Week 4: one bottle 365 count multi-vitamins Week 5: 4 cans tomato soup, 1 10 lb powdered milk Week 6: 1 bottle aspirin (500 tablets) Week 7: 1 100 lb container wheat Week 8: 1 5 lb powdered milk Week 9: 1 5 lb honey Week 10: 4 cans tuna, 4 boxes macaroni and cheese Week 11: 1 10 lb sugar, 1 box salt Week 12: 4 cans mushroom soup Week 13: 1 bottle 365 count multi-vitamins Week 14: 1 100 lb wheat Week 15: 1 box macaroni and cheese Week 16: 1 5 lb honey Week 17: 2 cans tuna, 4 can tomato soup Week 18: 1 10 lbs sugar Week 19: 1 100 lbs of wheat Week 20: 2 10lbs of sugar Week 21: 1 10lb powdered milk Week 22: 1 can mushroom soup, 1 10 lb sugar Week 23: 1 can tuna, 4 cans tomato soup, 1 10 lbs sugar Week 24: 1 10 lbs sugar Week 25: 2 cans tuna, 2 cans mushroom soup Week 26: 1 100 lb wheat

Week 27: 3 10 lbs sugar
Week 28: 1 10 lb sugar Week 29: 1 10 lb powdered milk Week 30: 2 10 lb sugar Week 31: 1 can tuna, 3 cans mushroom soup Week 32: 1 can tuna, 4 cans tomato soup Week 33: 1 100 lb wheat Week 34: 2 cans tuna, 1 box salt Week 35: 1 10 lb powdered milk Week 36: 2 10 lb sugar Week 37: 4 cans tomato soup, 2 boxes salt Week 38: Stash $5 in the kitty Week 39: 1 100 lb wheat Week 40: 1 10 lb powdered milk Week 41: 3 10 lb sugar Week 42: 2 cans tomato soup, 1 10 lb sugar Week 43: 2 cans tomato soup, 2 cans mushroom soup Week 44: Stash $5 in the kitty Week 45: 1 10 lb powdered milk Week 46: 4 cans tomato soup, 4 cans mushroom soup Week 47: 1 10 lb powdered milk Week 48: 4 cans mushroom soup, 1 10 lb powdered milk Week 49: 7 cans of tomato soup Week 50: 7 cans of mushroom soup Week 51: 2 10 lbs sugar, 1 box salt By the end of the 52 weeks, you should have: 700 lbs of wheat, 240 lbs sugar, 40 lbs of powdered milk, 13 lbs of salt, 10 lbs of honey, 5 lbs of peanut butter, 45 cans of tomato soup, 32 cans mushroom soup, 15 cans tuna fish, 10 macaroni and cheese dinners, 500 aspirin, and 730 multiple vitamins They suggest adding: 6 lbs of dried yeast and 6 lbs of shortening and this should be enough to sustain 2 people for a year. For every 2 people you have in your family add $5 more and double or triple the amount of whatever you are buying that week. You can vary this list for your own needs as in substituting cans of chicken for tuna, tomato soup for tomato sauce etc. Remember this is an example and you can vary it for your own family needs or your area stores sales.

I'm from Tekonsha MI. I heard about this site from my cousin Dave.
I'm a black sheep of the gung-ho family. Never in the military and never wanted to be. I hate the smells of farming. I like to build things and work on cars. I am a machinist by trade. (un-employed at this time due to factory closing). I do handy man jobs and work on peoples cars to make a living for now. I am also taking community college classes in computers. My plan is to get out of here after a week (if not sooner), I don't think trying to hold out in a house trailer is a good idea. I may hook up with my extended family out at their farms, but then again I like to keep my options more open. I'm not rich like some of my family but I am never broke. I always find a way to get by, no matter what I have to do.
