Choosing your vehicle is not an easy task. There are a number of things to factor in when making the decision. Below is a list of things you should go over and analyze when looking for the proper vehicle. (To skip to the list of vehicles, just scroll down to the end of the page)

Number How many vehicles will you need to meet your needs. This largely hinges upon your survival strategy and the number of people you have who are capable of operating the vehicles. If you are alone or in a very small group, you will probably only need one or two vehicles at the most. If you have roughly a dozen people, three or four vehicles may be better. And again, if you are in a base and only need vehicles for supply runs, a vehicles should suffice. If you are in a convoy, that number may rise significantly based on the number of people in your convoy.

Purpose Before picking out any old vehicle available, consider it's uses. If you're needing a vehicle for fast supply runs into towns and the like, a pickup truck or van will probably be best. If you are planning on staying mobile via a convoy, you will need vehicles for several different purposes. Things such as carrying the survivors, carrying supplies, carrying fuel, scouting ahead, etc. Make sure that the vehicle you select can efficiently fit the bill for the purposes you need it for.

Protection Zombies aren't stronger than the human they were created from, but protection is still an issue. While 2 inches of steel plating isn't a must, a solid structure is necessary. Most vehicles can survive minor collisions, but ramming through a horde of zombies is just plain stupid. A car with a chassis that is higher up off the ground is ideal, with less of a tendency to be swarmed and have it's windows busted through. Also keep in mind that in the case of a flat tire, or worse, engine problems, that car needs to be strong enough to hold up against attacking zombies. Though remember, protection isn't purely defensive. Being offensive and managing to avoid the problem entirely is truly the best solution and one to exercise whenever possible. Again, consider the situation before hand. Don't grab the keys to a Ferrari if you're driving through an area that you know is swamped with zombies, and don't bring a tank if you're traveling down an open, abandoned highway.

Stealth There is a time and place for everything. There's a time to break down the doors and come in guns blazing. There is also a time to slip in, get what you need, and get out unannounced. Consider the situation; if your base or convoy needs just about everything (fuel, food, water, ammo, tires, etc.) an all-out blitzkrieg on a town with all of your people may play in your favor. However, if you've got a sick man who needs an antibiotic, sending someone in to run into the drugstore, grab the meds, and rush out before the zombies take notice will probably suit you better. So really, try to play the whole field. You're going to trade stealth, speed, and maneuverability for protection and firepower. So if you're in a base save the big vehicles for big supply runs and use the smaller, quieter stuff for the odd and end things you have to take care of. And if you're in a convoy, try keeping the big, armored vehicles in open areas unless you need to use them in more urban settings, and use smaller vehicles for supply runs.

Cargo Capacity Again, consider the situation. If you're getting meds for a sick comrade, your pants pocket will probably be enough storage space for what you need. If you're hitting up a Walmart for tons of food, water, ammo, camping supplies, and entertainment stuff, grabbing a semi-rig or box van will probably be the best bet. The quicker and more maneuverable your vehicle is, the better the chance is that you won't destroy it by introducing a zombie to the radiator. For every situation you encounter, try to find the most maneuverable vehicle that will hold the necessary amount of cargo and will accommodate it without an hour of shifting everything around to fit it all.

Size Size is very important when picking a vehicle. You need to find something that will give you the best compromise of performance and protection while meeting all of your requirements. For urban and suburban areas, a darty little Honda Civic hatchback will give you great maneuverability, though it's storage capacity is limited. A semi-rig gives you a ton of storage space, but it's unwieldy on tight roads and honestly unusable in some urban settings. Select a vehicle that is big enough to hold everything you need, but not big to the point that it has outgrown your surroundings. In a convoy, you could use semi-rigs and buses for larger, more open roads, and rely on progressively smaller vehicles for supply runs into denser and denser areas.

Outfitting Equally as important as the vehicle itself is the outfit kit; What type of gear you carry, integrated or stowed on board, can seriously effect what areas you can access and what missions you can accomplish. A big SUV with a trailer hitched to it will give you tons of storage, but it will also be slower and harder to control than many other vehicles. If you are able to find and mount a machine gun on a pickup truck, you lose storage but gain a great protection vehicle for your convoy or for supply runs. Covering a vehicle in armor may make it almost impenetrable to zombies and hostile humans, but may make it so slow and un-maneuverable that you are always relying on the armor to save you. Again, consider your needs and outfit the vehicle accordingly.

Transmission Make sure that you can actually get the vehicles to move. While this only applies to motorized vehicles, there are many out there that rely on a manual transmission to work. Many motorcycles, ATV's, semi-rigs, sports cars, trucks, etc. all rely on manual transmissions. So if you can't handle operating a clutch and stick with numbers instead of letters, make sure you find vehicles with automatic transmissions. All in all, no matter what your situation is, make sure that the vehicle you choose meets your needs and will get the job done right. Make sure that you have a reliable vehicle that will serve you well and will not start having problems when you really need it to work properly. Tip: If you have been driving through any area and for any reason, your car will not move, get out and RUN as far away as possible. You may have been broadcasting a message to all Skin Jobs within earshot that "Dinner is served." Also, apply common-sense tips currently used, such as not driving impaired (blind, deaf, drunk, or high) and do NOT allow children to drive.

Rickshaws:
Are a mode of human-powered transport: a runner draws a two-wheeled cart which seats one or two persons. The word rickshaw came from Asia where they were mainly used as means of transportation for the social elite. However, in more recent times rickshaws have been outlawed in many countries in Asia due to numerous accidents.
Runner pulled rickshaws have mainly been replaced in Asia by bicycle rickshaws. They are also common in Western cities like New York City. In London they are known as pedicabs. The term "rickshaw" is today commonly used for those vehicles as well, but this article deals exclusively with runner-pulled rickshaws.

Roller-blades:
Often overlooked in such a situation, roller blades carry a number of
advantages and difficulties but for the experienced blader still offer a fair mode of transportation. Rollerblading is much faster than walking, and requires little more effort. The big disadvantage is in the time it takes to get them on, or off. Unlike other vehicles, it requires an average of three minutes to put on roller blades, and when you get into a situation where you can't use them (such as a dirt road) the zombies aren't going to wait for you to take them -off-. Also, anything but good quality will have you tripping and falling fairly often. Experience with either rollerblading, or the surprisingly similar sport of poll-less downhill skiing is highly recommended. Also note the advantage of being able to carry them easily. As a general rule, however, one would be best profited with another option. Also, if your leg is grabbed, you will slip and fall. As in the case of the man in World War Z who was riding on roller-skates and had a hockey stick with a butcher knife on the end, you will fall and cut your head open.

Bicycle:
These are also a readily available means of transportation on Z-Day. They have all the advantages of walking, but with a little more protection. The only fuel necessary is food and water for the rider. The only maintenance required is to keep the tires inflated, along with maintaining the brakes and the chain/gear system if the bike has one. I strongly discourage trying to ride over a zombie or through a horde. These are best used for escape or scouting.

Skateboard:
The “combat effectiveness” of skateboards has been debated, if nothing else, you can take the trucks off the decks, attach them to over-sized/weight objects you need to be to move around, and gain some speed from that rendering this more of a tool than a vehicle.

Shopping Carts:
Although this may seem stupid, you can just get into a shopping cart and ride it downhill. A shopping cart can be rigged with explosives and pushed into a horde. If you need to torture someone, put them in one, nail wood to the top, and no earplugs. They can also be used to barricade you from Zack. You can EASILY find dozens of them at a Wal-Mart, Target, Shoppers, etc.

Horse:
A quiet means of escape or travel to safer and more secure areas. Can carry somewhat large amounts of equipment. No gas required except for vegetation and water, easy to find if not in an urban area. Horses are not for inexperienced riders, as the horse may become startled and throw the rider, or require special care. A horse will not attract attention like a motor vehicle, but if zombies are encountered on a horse, the horse will not stand a chance in a fight and it would be best to continue riding away. In a tough scenario, it could be butchered for food. Also, if the cause of zombies is trans-species, the horse may just become another zombie. In medieval days knights rode around breaking heads before Z day. Dressage was training just for wars. According to the Zombie Survival Guide, they will not just be startled by smelling, hearing, or seeing a ghoul, but they will more than likely throttle you off their back and run away. This will leave you possibly with a broken back or legs, surrounded by zombies. Not a good situation at all. However, an experienced rider could use that as an early-warning and either combat the zombie or ride away. These are easily one of the best vehicles available, provided you know how to ride a horse.

Pit Bike:
Pit bikes are, specifically, miniature dirt bikes, though the same rules can be applied to any minibike/pocket bike.
Pit bikes are generally far more dangerous to ride than their larger counterparts. While easier to carry and requiring less fuel, an average-size rider will feel uncomfortable, especially when carrying large amounts of equipment. Speaking of equipment, minibikes have literally no carrying capacity. A minibike's only use, really, is either desperation or use as a hand held bludgeon.

Segway:
These are good for getting from point A to point B in your base, or if you feel like going on a melee weapon rampage. One example is the world-famous Segways, and not-so world-famous the Rad2Go Q Electric Chariot, though you could easily Build Your Own. So what's not to like? Actually, a whole lot in and of themselves. However, you could easily attach a cart to one to use it as a power plant (in a secured area), or tear one down for the rare parts and install them ONTO the cart, making it, essentially, a powered cart for greater speed and potentially greater load. Get them from your local University patrol, mall patrol, or lazy people. Perhaps the greatest downside of the Segway however, is that if you fall off one around a group of zombies, not only will you die but you'll look like a total jackass while being eaten.

Dirtbikes:
Dirtbikes are a very quick way of getting around in areas that don't have roads, or have bad roads. They can get into places that almost no other motorized vehicle can, and they make for great scouting vehicles. The downsides of a dirtbike however, are pretty obvious. First, you have no protection other than speed and maneuverability, and if you fall (which you will at some point, it's inevitable) you could be badly injured and left an easy target for the zombies. Also, the vast majority of dirtbikes are two-stroke and because of that are rather loud, especially at open throttle. Finally, their storage space is equal to what you can fit in your pockets or in a backpack. Not a great primary vehicles for most people, but a great scouting or bail-out vehicle and useful for overseeing supply runs.

ATV's:
ATV's are the dirtbike's four-wheeled brethren. Their layout makes them better suited to mud and snow than dirtbikes, and you can stand on one without falling off. If they have any storage space, it comes as a storage rack on the back. However, the ATV can be just as dangerous as the dirtbike if not more so. The ATV is heavier, so if it falls on you it can do very serious damage. Also, that weight increase makes them very unstable if you get one or more wheels off the ground. It is all too easy to flip an ATV over, so you should be very careful when riding them.

Chopper:
Choppers are the big motorcycles, the Harley's and such. Choppers are usually decently comfortable bikes, but they don't have much in the way of the performance or storage ability. They're pretty heavy which keeps them from having the speed or maneuverability that other bikes have, and the most they have for storage is a couple of saddle bags on the back. Not all that bad for scouting and recon, but not the best either. Also, they are notorious for being VERY loud.

Goldwing:
Goldwings are the Honda Touring bikes. They're absolute cruisers and are the most comfortable bikes out there. They are even less performance oriented than choppers, but they can carry a bit more. Goldwings have full front ends with pretty big windscreens, they can have radios, and they have large carrying bins on the back. Goldwings are basically two wheeled cars, and they're the best for long trips. If you need to drive a good distance on your own with only a few supplies, then a Goldwing is not a bad choice.

Sport bikes:
Sport bikes are Ducati's, Ninja's, Hayabusa's, Yamaha RZ's, Harley Davidson Sportster's, etc. Sportbikes, or crotch rockets as they're affectionately known, are the sports cars of the bike world. Sport bikes are built with the goal of hauling ass down a freeway or a windy road. They have razor sharp handling, brutal acceleration, good top speeds, and incredibly short braking distances. They don't have any carrying capacity however, and they're by far the most dangerous of all motorcycles. And as any biker will tell you, you'll eventually lay the bike down. You just hope that you'll have protective clothing on and hope you hit something soft at low speeds. Sport bikes are excellent for scouting and recon, and if you need to get away from some hostile survivors, a bike will certainly fit the bill.

Rokon Motorcycle:
This is a two wheel drive motorcycle, carrying capacity 1000 pounds, towing capacity 3000 pounds. The wheels are hollow drums, with them empty it will float. Wide range of accessories including tow bar, sidecar, single wheel trailer, plow, log skidder, gun rack, and more.

Dune Buggy / Sand Rail:
Just like the military Desert Patrol Vehicle (DPV), this little car can see the world, and still be back in time for dinner. Most are either modified Volkswagen Beetle (the original) frames or custom made frames, either homemade or purchased from a company which specializes in making them. Usually rear-engined and rear-wheel drive, these things are quick and can get almost anywhere. Their only real drawback is lack of protection and storage space.

Throphy Truck:
Speed, agility, reliability. This wonder of the racing world is begging to be your truck! Some professionals even have specialized versions which have the original metal body, glass, air conditioning, regular interior, etc. Note that these are strictly stick shift trucks and they use a racing clutch, so driving them can be tricky.

Paggio MP3:
A scooter can come in handy when you need to travel quietly and efficiently over short distances. This particular model also possesses a third wheel, allowing for faster speeds, tighter turns, and overall good handling on many different surfaces, including wet, slippery streets. This scooter was made for city streets, but can be used on any smooth surface, like cement or pavement. It's fuel tank holds 3.2 gallons, where i am, the gas is $4 a gallon so in total to to fill up the gas tank is 12 dollars and 80 cents, from my calculations. That can be a lifesaver at the pump. Only problem is the range probably stinks, but that's about the only thing that stinks about it. It also has a top speed of 77 miles-an-hour.

Minibike:
Also known as a Pocketbike comes in all style from sporty, dirt, and others. The advantages of these bike are cost compare to full size motorcycles. $300-800 for a brand new pocket bike. Maximum load bike could support is about 250LB but it vary from size of pocket bike. Other wise a very good tool to use for a quick get a way ,can speed up to 45-65mph max depending on model. Never judge a motorcycles because of it size, and it does the job. Just remember to find a gasoline version over the electric bikes, as the gas bikes are almost always faster and have a much better range as they can be refueled without being tied to an outlet for hours at a time.

Dual-Sport / Enduro Motorcycles:
These bikes are meant to go on long rides on the highway and also take on some of the toughest trails out there. They look like half street bike, and half dirt bike, because that's exactly what they are. They are heavier than a dirt bike (400lbs vs 200lbs) but can still get just about anywhere. I've seen these bikes tackle some of the worst terrain, crash 5 or 6 times, get left out in the rain for days, then start up and work fine. Enduro bikes are meant to be loaded up with with gear and many have saddle bag (side bag) mounting on them. With the ability to go anywhere (I truly mean that), carry around 40 lbs of gear on the sides, and sport 50 MPG, these bikes are made to for the solo zombie survivor. Advantages: Won't get worn out by long rides on the road (unlike dirt-bike), some have 12v power plugs, 50 MPG, can go over any terrain

Hummer H2/ H2 SUT:
The Hummer H2 isn't a purpose built vehicle like it's H1 sibling, but rather it uses a modified Chevy Suburban platform. This means that pound for pound it isn't quite as tough as the real Hummer. That said, the H2 in both forms is a very competent and rugged truck and it performs as good if not better than most other SUV's out there. The SUT is the same truck except for the fact that the rear storage area in the regular H2 has been made into a small pick-up bed. One very nice thing with the H2 is that it has more safety and comfort features than the H1, and for non stick shift drivers they are all automatic.

Hummer H1:
The civilian H1 Hummer is essentially the military version with real, locking steel doors. It was obtainable in hardtop or soft top forms, and is consider to be one of the best stock off-roaders of all-time. The major downfall was the price of a civilian H1 so they are somewhat rare. Also remember that even the civilian model was incredibly sparse of options, it basically had no interior, no airbags, nothing. It also has a top speed of 83 mph, via it's turbo diesel V8 which gives it immense towing abilities.

Jeep Wrangler:
The Wrangler has a long and illustrious history as one of the best off-roaders of all time. They've gone just about everywhere and can be modified for an amazing number of purposes. Wranglers are also one of the most affordable off-roaders out there, which has made them a strong seller for years. Also nice is that the doors, windows and roof can all be removed on certain models, though full metal roof and door Wranglers are also available. One problem with the Wrangler is the ride comfort, in being a strong and affordable off-roader they've always come with a very rough suspension which can get annoying after an extended time behind the wheel. All in all Wranglers are fine trucks and should definitely be considered.












Land yachts:

Land yachts are the utmost in comfort and style. If you need to take a long trip on open roads they're the car of choice. Also, they are all steel construction so not much can stop one of these beasts once it's moving. However, these behemoths are not without fault. First is the fact that they're fuel economy is terrible, though somewhat offset by their massive tanks. Second, they are slow as hell, so getting away from danger can take a while. Also, many of the older ones don't have the modern conveniences such as power steering and braking, disc brakes, or ABS. So, land yachts are very nice vehicles, but they're still old technology and driving one can be daunting for a novice.

Mini Truck:
Known in Japan as Kei trucks, mini trucks are essentially tiny pickup trucks, generally no more than 11 feet long, 58 inches wide, and 78 inches tall. They weigh about 1500 pounds (700 kilograms) with a max speed of 75 mph (120 km/h). They have fully enclosed cabs with AM radios, windshield wipers, and heaters, and are claimed to have a fuel efficiency of 70 mpg. While street legal in Japan, the prevalence of larger vehicles in the United States generally restricts them to rural roads; not much of an issue for the little trucks, as they're perfectly good off-road. Oklahoma and Kentucky are more liberal, barring them only on interstates.

As the picture shows, they have a high carrying capacity for their size and can even have their wheels swapped for treads, enabling better snow-faring capabilities. It is recommended by Japanese laws that they be surplussed after a relatively short time span.

Small-size Pickup Trucks:
Toyota pickup, Nissan Frontier, Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado, Dodge Dakota, etc.
Small size pickups are baby trucks that offer more maneuverability and improved fuel economy, though less power and room than their full-sized counterparts. Small trucks are good for carrying small loads and are a bit more maneuverable than the bigger trucks. More useful in tighter areas and some can still handle a light machine gun in the back.







Full-size Pickup Trucks:
The Dodge Ram, Ford F-series, Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan, etc. Full-size pickups are the biggest civilian use pickups out there. Most of these trucks are rear or all wheel drive, V8 powered vehicles, so performance is surprisingly decent. Most of these trucks also have some semblance of off-road ability in stock form, and most can be modified to improve upon that. Also, they have some of the biggest fuel tanks available so fuel range is good, though mileage isn't that great. The open bed is good for throwing things in the back on supply runs or can serve as a good spot for a mounted machine gun., if you can find one.

Ford Expedition EL:
This third generation Expedition is an extended-wheelbase version called the Expedition EL (for "Extended Length") in the United States and the Expedition Max in Canada. The Expedition EL is about 15.8 in longer than the standard Expedition for additional cargo space for those supplies your group depends on. Like most SUVs in the zombie outbreak, it can be fitted with a make-shift shooting platform on the roof. Need to rip open a barricade or tow your fellow survivors? This model of the Expedition can pull over 7,290 lbs. This vehicle is the only SUV in the Ford line to offer seating for seven. Of the stock luxury SUVs, this and the Chevy Suburban are possibly some of the best with decent off road performance, and decent toughness.

Standard SUVs

Blazers, Explorers,Cherokees, Highlanders, Durangos, and the like fall into this category. Standard sized SUVs are genally more manuverable than larger SUVs and trucks, but have reduced cargo space, towing capacity, and power. Fuel mileage is marginally better than full size SUVs, depending on make and model. Many are equiped with four wheel drive and offer a decent amount of ground clearance. High speed handling is not one of the SUV's strengths. Parts availibility and ease of maintenance can vary.

Large SUVs

Full size SUVs have traditionally been used improperly as ferrys for rugrats and occasionally towing a fishing boat. When the outbreak hits, full size SUVs offer good ground clearance, lots of cargo and passenger capacity, good towing ability and usually V8 power and four wheel drive. This all comes at the cost of fuel mileage and manuverability. Small trails and cluttered roadways could prove to be a challenge for these larger vehicles. While a usually V8 powered, these vehicles still aren't designed for high speed. Generally, large SUVs are easy to procure parts for, as most of them are related to their parent company's pickup offering. Larger than average engine compartments can make the full size SUV more manageable to work on.

Minivans

The lowly minivan may not provide the most driving excitement, but don't overlook them on Z-day. These people movers offer plenty of room for gear and survivors while providing better gas mileage than most SUVs. Dual sliding doors are handy, and the rear seats can be removed quickly, revealing a flat floor for stacking ammo cans or weapons crates. Nealy every one out there has an automatic transmission. Off road ability, acceleration, and top speed are all low. However, stealth factor is high.

Econboxes

Everybody needs to get to work, that's why econoboxes are everywhere. Cargo space is low, usually a compact car has a tight backseat and a truck or hatchback. Towing is not endorsed. Fuel mileage is the econobox's forte, miles per gallon can be anywhere between low 30s and mid 40s. Reliability remains decent, so long as they aren't modded needlessly like our friend to the right did to his. Off road ability isn't there. With open road ahead of it, a compact car can be just the ticket to get you to your BOL when the undead rise.

Luxury SUVs: These vehicles are not your best choice for Z-day, as they are not all that tough, or off road capable. On top of that, they have far too many electronic bells and whistles and gadgets that will most certainly break during hard usage. On the other hand, they CAN carry plenty of people and cargo and tow if they have to, and due to their popularity among suburban housewives, they are quite prevalent.

Recreational Vehicle (RV):
The Recreational Vehicles are those things you see parked in Wal-Mart lots those hot July days. They are basically 40 foot buses armed to the tip with every living comfort. While not an idealistic zombie killing machine it can provide very good cover (R/V's are extremely durable w/ thick walls and lockable doors). The RV is also very heavy, allowing the user to not have to worry about something flipping you over...unless it's your own doing. Too bad however, the R/V is designed SOLELY for road use, with limited trail capability. The most you can do is ride out the apocalypse in the comfort of your RV. It has storage racks just about everywhere to carry stuff, so that's a bonus! It does have a bathroom, but you have to use tubes to knock the fecal matter into a sewer or your bus will smell like poop for 3 years or more. Also, they have very poor gas mileage (about 3 miles per gallon), so unless you have about 60 gallons of gas and enough weaponry, plus bulletproof windows, this isn't the best choice. The model shown runs about 1.5 million dollars (but it's also amphibious). Other, smaller, car-attachment ones are much cheaper, but will do practically nothing against zombies.

Semi-Trailer Truck:



School Bus:
Since they are only kept in "special" bus parking lots you can easily get a convoy of these going.They are reliable and good for moving large groups of people around. They can be used as barricades (Ever see The Road Warrior?) Other advantages are that you can weld sheet metal or anything you can find to it to re-enforce it.The off road performance is obviously limited due to their length and tires, and the fuel consumption is high, but if road travel is your idea, then one of these will carry plenty of people or supplies. These will definitely keep up the morale of children.

Panel Truck:
A semi truck with armor. Same disadvantages as a semi or fire truck. Has better gas mileage than a semi as it was designed for stop-and-go driving. Easy to get, but beware, some run on natural gas for cleaner emissions, and this will be hard to come by and dangerous to transport. Good protection for whatever is in the back, not so much the driver, and the cleaning that will be necessary to get the back livable may take precious time. Very heavy and hard to turn. If you take out the garbage (most of it should be in bags) and put a gratuitous amount of soil in the pit, you have in essence a farm on wheels, open air for sunlight, and a fairly large tank to hold water, soil, etc. These are extremely good vehicles, as long as you have the fuel to let them ride around.

Backhoe:
Anybody planning to stay put in a reinforced bunker should really try to get their hands on one of these or similar small loader. Useful for clearing dead Zs, reinforcing barricades, digging trenches, etc. They are tough as it gets, and obviously have good off road performance. Like the one in the picture, some come with enclosed air-conditioned cabs, which would help with the smell of decomposing bodies and protect from a surprise zombie encounter. These could certainly help stack dead bodies in a ditch, build a base, move piles of debris, or whatever your pot Z-Day needs are.

Police Car:
Made for slamming and ramming. Squad cars are typically reinforced and have upgraded internals. Remember, however, that they are usually not bullet-proof. Even if a squad car is not working, it is good for scavenging as they have radios and perhaps a weapon if you're lucky (remember in Resident Evil: Apocalypse when Alice left the hospital and found the shotgun). Many police cars nowadays will have a shotgun in the front seat and an AR-15, along with a grenade launcher in some areas in the trunk. Getting a couple of these is definitely good to cruise into zombie territory to look for survivors. Excellent for scouting and escape, as they are some of the fastest conventional vehicles invented.

Ambulance:
While lacking in off-road capabilities ambulances are rather tough vehicles. An advantage of the ambulance is that it has a lot of room for storage, and, when found, carries emergency medical supplies. As with all emergency vehicles it is rather tough, and surprisingly easy to maintain (the same may not be true with its equipment). In terms of gas mileage, this vehicle is a good bet for short range travel/ mobile insertion and extraction. With only slight modification, this would be the perfect centerpiece for your band of survivors. On a downside, the only semi-sure place to find one of these would be a hospital, and the keys are unlikely to be left with the vehicle. You cannot go very fast with these either, as they have a high center of balance. As we have all read, hospitals are some of the most dangerous areas during an outbreak due to the chaos and lack of maintenance that follows an outbreak, but this is the topic of another section. It is very possible that these may have a blood-stained cabin, or a zombie still in his/her body bag.

Fire Engine:
The size of a bobtail diesel rig, only without the cargo capacity, its fuel consumption and noise matches a semi as well. Sirens and flashing lights would only attract more zombies if you turned them on, however, this could work to your advantage during a zombie hunt. It is large and hard to turn, but relatively speedy, and VERY well cared for (babied like a show car trailer queen- until they get dirty). As for the advantages, they are EXTREMELY tough and can carry lots of supplies if stripped of its fire fighting equipment, or leave the fire equipment in if you're worried about your base on fire. The water tanks could be used for extra fuel or drinking water. And for your injured buddies there's usually some medical equipment inside along with a radio for what ever reason you would need it for. Another advantage is that if it's a ladder truck it would carry a ladder, never know when you'll need a ladder. Also, if you do have the chance to salvage one, the fire engine can be stripped down for it's components (such as the water pump), then rebuilt into a new platform (such as field repair/tow vehicle).

Monster Truck:
They get about 3 miles per gallon, but no zombie can get to the top, and the giant wheels could run over about 5 zombies at time, they can even run over cars. These are a great source of recreation. If you need to snipe away at the zombies, just sit on the top. The only two disadvantages are that they get poor mileage and are not easily found unless you are at a monster truck rally on Z-Day, own one, or find one.

Yamaha Rhino:
These are some of the best SUV's that you can find on the market. They are fast, easy to obtain, and are great on gas. These Utility Vehicles are great for running off-road and away from zombies...or other survivors if that is the way you want. They come standard with a winch, a roll cage and seat belts, windshields and tops are optional. These can hold four people, or two and cargo. They have a dump box and can max out at 60 MPH. They don't come with a windshield, so if you get one on Z-Day and don't modify, don't plan on running over any Zack.

Cushman Carts:
Those ubiquitous groundskeepers carts are electrically powered, but have limited range and speed. However, they are highly useful in scouting, salvage and recovery, and working yards. These should be carried for supporting roles by those utilizing much heavier, difficult to maneuver platforms, such as box trucks and big rigs. Their off-road capabilities are not as good as feet, but most are designed to be able to handle limited rough terrain- Which is better than anything other than a dedicated off-road vehicle. Also, since they’re electric, they are almost absolutely silent so skin jobs can’t hear you coming, and use no fuel per say, allowing that to be better employed elsewhere.

Attainability: Low; Best found in urban and suburban industrial areas and near groundskeepers areas.
Maintenance: Low Range: Medium; Needs time to charge.
Toughness: Very Low in combat situations, High in non-combat.
Fuel Type: Electric

NOTE: A kissing cousin to the Cushman Cart are golf carts; The two types should, generally, be considered essentially exactly the same (indeed, "Cushman" is the brand name, and Cushman manufactures golf carts as well).

Jeep Hurricane:
This concept vehicle has a carbon-fiber body, coupled with two v6s and has 4-wheel steering, so you can do a 360 in place, useful for spinning while shooting. Once it proceeds from concept to showroom it will seriously concept car, but it still kicks ass.









Stormchasers Custom Tornado-Chasing Vehicle:
AKA: Tornado Intercept Vehicle (TIV)
This vehicle obviously means business- Just look at it! It SCREAMS "Just try to eat my brain, you *******!!" This thing was PURPOSE-BUILT to brave the worst tornadoes out there. This beast has armor, a built in turret originally made for a camera, but we all know what goes there (50-cal, anyone?) and it has at least 6 wheels, plus sloped walls to deflect any attack. It could very easily be outfitted with bullet-proof windows (and probably is already outfitted with shatterproof windows, which are much more practical for the rise of the skin jobs). It must have a pretty hefty engine, to haul all that armor, people, AND filming equipment.

Availability: You would have to build it yourself, just like the original.
Maintenance: Unknown, but probably high.
Gas Mileage: Unknown, but probably very bad.
Toughness: Near unlimited- It DID stand up to a tornado, after all.
Speed : Probably fairly speedy (it did KEEP UP WITH a tornado as well).
Fuel Type: Unknown.


Satellite Trucks:

Satellite trucks are used whenever a crew (especially news or weather crews) need large, portable satellite dishes. They're not at all fast or maneuverable, and while they can bump cars out of the way and keep driving, too much crashing can damage or destroy the equipment aboard. Unless you need to use the satellites as they are with the truck or in need of an escape vehicle, it's best to strip them down for the parts and re-make it into a combat or transport vehicle.
