Newbie questions
Jan 19 2010, 9:23 PM EST | Post edited: Jan 19 2010, 9:23 PM EST
Hey everyone, for those I haven't met I'm J.T.H and I opened my eyes to the zombie threat thanks to Max Brooks' The Zombie Survival Guide. Since then I've spend lots of money on all sort of zombie books, made zombie plans with my friends, and made sure I'm ready for the undead. When I came upon this site it seemed to good to be true that there were so many like-minded people out there, but I still have some questions about ZSDW.

1. What's a B.O.B? Yeah, I know this sounds stupid, but I've heard everyone saying it and I don't know what it is!

2. How do you make a page in a section? I want to post my survival plans but I can't figure out how.

3. Is there an official set of grounds rules regarding zombies that the people here at ZSDW have laid down and accepted? I myself believe whatever Max Brooks says, but I've heard some people talk about "running" zombies even though Max Brooks says there are no such things. So what do you guys believe zombies can/can't do, what causes them (Solanum, rabies, aliens?), etc.

1. Bug Out Bag. The bag you carry when you Bug Out (run like **** to your BOL, or Bug Out Location)

2. On the left side of the page here, is a navigation box. At the bottom of that (just above Ads by Google) is the "Add a New Page" button. Use the template.

3. All zombie types are acceptable to us, including the space-alien-parasite-Slither ones. I prefer that the running ones are called Sprinters or Runners, but some call them Ragers after 28 Days Later. These people don't know any better, and I pity them. :)

Welcome to the site.

1.A BOB is a "Bug out bag" or bag/pack that you plan on having when the SHTF. It may be good to have different sized ones (I have a small bag, for Ironhand's "one minute to run" test, a medium one for two or three day's travel, and an extended one for permanent bugging out.)

2.I'm not sure. I assume you go to "User survival plans" and hit "add a new page"

3.You've breached one of the most hotly debated topics here. There are tons of threads devoted to this. IMO, it's good to plan for the worst, so I've planned for sprinter zombies.

Extra note: Don't listen to Brooks. Not only will people make fun of you, but you will most likely won't be adequately prepared. The worst thing you can do is assume that all zombies will be slow and stupid.
Also, the M16/AR-15 is a decent weapon. Most people think it's better than a Garand or M1 carbine.

Finally, read Pedro Asain's The Panic; I consider it required reading for new members.

Edit:Damn; Pedro beat me to it.

1. Aaah OK that makes some sense. I heard about BOL I don't know why I didn't make the connection :P (doh!)

2. Thanks this helps alot!

3. I'll plan for sprinters then, but I don't believe in alien super zombies with magic powers or anything of course. I still like Brooks even if he underestimates zombies.

Yeah, Brooks is okay. I do commend him for introducing so many people to zombies.
