Zombie alert meter?
Mar 7 2010, 9:53 PM EST | Post edited: Mar 7 2010, 9:53 PM EST
We should have a zombie alert meter on the homepage to determine probability based on current events.

Any input? Anyone want to do it?

We had some ideas about this a while back. The idea, threads, and page (I think there was a page about it) died, and disappeared.

Just recently, with the "You want believe what is saw" thread, I have been wondering - who would believe anyone elso on this website if we announced it.

This is an integral part of zombie preparedness, and we are slacking off by not having a warning system (for when it happens), as well as a probability meter.

We had an entire protocal to it and everything. Let's dig up the threads.

Whilst it is a good idea, what criteria would you use to determine the levels? The DEFCON system might well be a good start, as well as the global pandemic levels.

Also, would the area of outbreak affect how threatened you are? For example, if Spain had an outbreak of zombies, it would be more of a threat to the UK than the US. But if Mexico had the outbreak, then the US is under threat more than the UK.

Really, the only levels that I can see people agreeing on are:

1: no confirmed zombies
2: possible zombies
3: ZOMBIES!

It's a bit of a flat system.

In response to the "You won't believe what I saw" thread, there was plenty or reason to doubt that. The spelling was terrible, and no proof or description was offered.

Also, here are my zombie threat levels:
1. Rumors of zombies.
2. Zombies in the world.
3. Zombies in my country.
4.Zombies in my state.
5. Zombies on my porch.

Also in response to the "You won't believe what I saw thread", what is your threat level number for zombies in your thread?

Well yes, but it just brought it up in my mind. Too specific for the levels.

Mr. President - there are zombies on the porch. We must upgrade to code piss-our-pants yellow.

I would just do Low, Elevated, Severe, and Confirmed levels.

This set of levels is too geographically specific, which is kind of my point. You might be at a 5, but I would be at a 2.

This is better, but what criteria determine which level we are at?

I know. I was mainly kidding with this. Obviously, it wouldn't be a good system.
Why not use the terrorist threat levels? Blue, green, yellow, orange, and red? Blue is everything's hunky-dory, not even a rumor. Red is that there are large numbers of zombies all over the planet.

Alright, I got it. The perfect levels, adapted from a quote by Ron White.
1. Go find a rifle.
2. Load the damn rifle.

on the homepage a person could click on a level of the meter if they see or hear something, the meter would rise a little with each click. like 3,000 clicks would bring it up on level. even if someone sits there and clicks on it all day, they might bring it up one level thats it. but what if there really IS something going on? would you have to sit there and click it a bunch of times if you were the only one who knew?

EDIT:dont get me wrong though, its a good idea, it just might need to be a little more refined.

I know i know i know!!! how about this. Someone notices somthing wierd and zombie related. they click the panic button and it starts off as a mild threat and the meter goes up by itself. eventually it reaches ZOMFG, zombies!!! if it is not attended, and if it was just a false alarm it could be turned off.
"COME ON TANK! Thats exactly what we're talking about doing!" :P im bored...

you know what i'd like as well??? Live chat. We have discussions and such. but is there a chat? if there is and ive been missing it for 8 months thats pretty fail on my part...

I am not asking about what colours or words to use for each level.

I want to know the CRITERIA for each level.
