Reaction to Random People
Apr 6 2010, 5:33 PM EDT | Post edited: Apr 6 2010, 5:35 PM EDT
Okay, scenario is:

You're driving down the street in your vehicle about 3-4 months after the apocalypse has begun, you're in the outskirts of a suburban neighborhood, looking for good houses to loot, when suddenly you see a group of 5 people who look mildly armed. Maybe, 1 or 2 guns between them all. They look normal, not really much of the raider type, and not well off either, but they're very jumpy and cautious, not really doing much, just looks like they would shoot you if need be. The area isn't really part of your territory, just close by (You're expanding, so it really will be in the future).

I want to know, what is your reaction to random people you find. Would you,

A) Shoot, they're close by, and you need to set an example that this is your place
B) Give a warning shot, they might run, but come back later, or they just might shoot back
C) Be cautious, and ask them their names, and ask them what they're doing here
D) Go flat out Grandma style, giving hugs and food to everyone
E) Get back in your car, and zoom off
F) Get back in your car, and run them over
G) Tell them to leave
H) Other

H) Other, observe without being seen, set experiments to identify mental health of the group.

Option B.

My team would have them covered well. If they are at all intelligent, they will see that they are outgunned. I will clearly let them know that we mean them no harm, and find out what is going on.

1-2 guns between 5 people seems a bit hopeful to me. Do you find this valuable?

Is this in my territory or am I traveling myself?

If it's my territory I'd give them a warning from out of sight that we are armed, know their location, and have them outnumbered but will NOT attack them if they come out right now with their weapons pointed down.

If it's not my territory I'd go around. They might be in their territory and it's not worth fighting over what might be there.

It is territory you plan on expanding your sphere of influence on to.

Or they might just have those for show and have a couple of others hidden in their coats or on their back etc.

Well then I'd probably wait a day or so then come back.

If they're still there I'd see no point in killing people for what *might* be there.

Oh Major D...

You SLAY ME!!!

I have 3 all on my own... I'm seeing a Lever Action in my future once I get a Cheaper place....

To the OP-
You're not a Mall Ninja. Nice. +1 & compliment imminent...

To the question at hand: Safe Answer is A), dead people don't pose a threat.

H) Other- If I'm Scouting new territory, it's probably just me or a *very small* group of people I trained & worked with... 2-3 in addition to me.

We'd observe & think about a course of action. It matters a whole lot if they look like they know what they are doing VS just wandering because they have no idea what else to do.

Are they 'Military Age' Men? Do they look clean/dirty/put-together? Emeciated? Fat? Attractive (Hey, men & women will *NEED* to reproduce)? What's their race?
(NOTE: race counts only based on Demographic Area. If you live in a Majorly Caucasian area, it would be VERY interesting how a few Asians/Latinos/African-Americans got to where you are)

I *want* to talk to these people. They might be good or bad, I don't know & I wanna find out.

Steps would be taken with Me &/Or my small Scout Party to make them put their firearms down.... & I would REALLY want them to. It's ZedPoc afterall.. new faces, new skills, new philosophies would be very welcome I would think.

I'd make them understand (somehow) that me & my folks are in charge. Depending on the conversation, demeanor, needs of what Me & mine + what they need & want... there just might be some Grandma/Grandpa hugs due...

Or there may be banishment enforced.

Seems Lancer like you ask a lot.

1: I'd NEVER put down a weapon if an unknown person was around. I wouldn't aim them at you no but they would be in my hands. I'd expect the same.

Someone acting like they're in charge invites challenges and aggression which is counterproductive. No use dying over bull. So approaching the situation from a level angle gives them nothing to prove.

Now wether or not that even field is real or not is meaningless. Most peaceful people will appreciate the effort.

For the ones that don't show them that no the field wasn't even. They were the termite assaulting your gates of Rome.

Interesting...

I didn't think about that.

Though I think people would defiantly respond to a volatile situation better then some expect...

C then D, although I might skip the hugs.

The more the merrier, but only if they are merry under my rules. But they probably will be. Nothing can garner loyalty like kindness.

Defiantly or definitely? ...Your dialect of Bald is confusing.

By the way, C and D. I'm not operating an ice cream truck*, but helping out strangers helps to build positive relations with the local populace.

This is going to sound strange coming from me, but while maintaining my guard, I will make contact with them.

1. it's 3-4 mos post Zday and this group has survived with only 2 guns, they must being doing something right.

2. I agree with every FL47 posted. They could be an invaluable source of info. if your bunkered down in one area, you may need their intel, particular if a swarm/herd of 100k Zeds are 2 or 3 days behind them.

3. Their is safety in numbers, and post Zday, humans would be severely out numbered. One or more of them could have valuable skills, your group could use.

4. this is post Zday, hopefully your survivor groups includes some folk to help repopulate the planet. That could become problematic, if the only women in your group are your mom and sister. Unless your from West Virginia.

Still, you don't want to compound your problems by creating the next cast for The Hills Have Eyes. A little genetic diversity goes a long way.

*Shivers*

Man, I don't squirm much.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.

HMMWV's on fire with people inside.

A woman giving birth during a Mortar attack.

But that Fawking Movie...

Ugh... I cringe thinking of several scenes in that movie...

If I can feed and shelter them at the base, then I tell them where it is, and continue doing what I'm doing (I'm going to assume a Scav mission to either the hospital or the water treatment plant, since those are the only reasons for me to be outside the walls.) They make their own way there to be dealt with by whoever is in charge.

If I can't afford to feed and shelter them, then I tell them to head in a different direction that should have fewer zombies (based on which direction most of them have come from when attacking my base)

And if they try and follow us, it's one warning shot, the rest aimed.

*steps out of truck, aviators sunglasses shining, Cigar in mouth. walks over with Bowie knife sheathed and my shotgun slung over my shoulder*

"Boo"!

lol, ok srry i was bored. lightning my mood before work, it'll go by faster that way... anyways.

Meh, 2 people with guns out of five, thats far from hopeless. there could be only two of them but be damn good shots with that bolt action. Thats 10 bullets firing from their guns, ten people they could hit.

To be honest, if they look like just a group of people, i'd stop, make friends and see if they'd like a lift, (ive got a trailer in the back) :P. If its just like, a family sorta thing and theres a kid and a mommy, i doubt they'd be looking for a fight.

does that fall under D or H?
