Hey up mate.I'd loose the MP3 since it wont last long and remember - you don't wont to comprimise your hearing. It will save your life. Loose the deodrant as well. You don't want the smell to be the cause of the enemy finding you whether they are dead or alive. Using walkie talkies is dangerous for anyone can be listening in on you and lure you into a trap. I see why your taking them, but only use them to keep in touch with people ON YOUR TEAM. One other thing - walkie talkies are not secure therefore you'll need some sort of code. Makesure your flash light is RED light not white. This will enable you to use it at night and NOT loose your night vision capability. Also, makesure the beam is as small as possible to minimise detection. Why so many toothbrushes? Why so many razors? As for what to add - check out my list for the 30L BOB and Assault vest. Your missing items such as water bottles, sleeping gear, rations etc etc. I hope this has helped :) Do you find this valuable? |

"Hey up mate. Thanks for the info SGTGerman. The mp3 would be for the kids as entertainment to use, when we're at a safe spot (and only then). The thought behind the toothbrushes is my family consist of 4 -so everyone has their own brush. The razors (facial hair mail, unwanted body hair male/female) are disposable so they won't last long. As for the flashligh, I haven't thought about the red light. What would be the best solution to make it red (filter, cone,...?) and the walkie talkies should indeed be used with caution... "The red colored saran wrap that they sell around Christmas can be put over a flashlights lens with a rubber band or a zip tie. Good thinking on adding a red lens SGT. I noticed you used the word mate. Are you from Aulstralia or the UK? Do you find this valuable? |

"So you carry the supplies for your whole family? "Basicly, yes I will carry the supplies. The initial plan is that both kids will carry their own backpack with some personal items, my wife will carry the emergency medical backpack, and myself the items/supplies for survival. The big question will be "what if one of us gets killed/become Zed"? resulting that the other needs to carry 2 backpacks or stuffing everything inside one will make it very heavy to carry around... You should put a little bit of everything in each bag, in case you get separated.

"Some suggestions......Make sure you have some strike anywhere matches, I keep mine in a plastic perscription bottle with a strip of sand paper taped around the outside, even though you can strike them anywhere the sandpaper works great Get some of thouse little Tea Candles, I bought a bag of them at the Dollar tree for $1...they are great for not only giving out a little light but also starting fires and don't weigh much. I put them in a roll and wraped up with tin foil. Think less likely to melt in your bag as a regular candle, though a larger candle is probably a good idea to have too ...Buy a pack of "Bic" disposiable lighters ..I'd toss the Zippo lighter fuel I understand why you want it but I never seen a bottle of it that didn't leak after it was opened. Vasoline soaked cotton balls in a small sealed container like a pill bottle are great for fire starting. Since firestarting could be a VERY important thing you are smart to have more then one way to do it as you do....Doesn't hurt to have some matches/ lighter in a small container somewhere other then your BOB also I like having a Head lamp as well as two flash lights and spare battiers I guess you haven't got around to water and food yet Do you find this valuable? |

Pontus, I like the chalk. Never heard that one before. Arguably the most important items to include in any BOB is an extra pair of socks in a zip lock bag for each member of your party, thick moleskin, and some foot powder. You've got to take care of your feet, since you may have to move over long distances on foot. Also, a whistle is a great signalling device and small enough to include in any kit.
